You season 3 was another hit for Netflix. Fans all over the world are now wondering the same thing: Will I have to wait almost two years to watch You season 4?

We hope not! Netflix renewed You for season 4 before the release of season 3. It was a surprise move to announce it before the season premiere, but we knew that You season 4 was going to happen. Netflix wouldn’t cancel this show that early!

When is You season 4 filming?

Good news for You fans, You season 4 has officially started filming! The news was confirmed yesterday via the official You Netflix Twitter account. The fourth season is now in production and should wrap filming by July 2022. Hopefully, we’ll get a premiere date for sometime in this fall or winter.

Does You season 4 have a release date?

Unfortunately, not yet. We had to wait nearly two years for You season 3. It was about 22 months, actually, and most of that wait was because of the pandemic. We probably would have seen You season 3 in early 2021 if not for the major production delays.

You season 4 will likely be released on Netflix sometime in the fall or winter of 2022. I don’t see Netflix waiting much longer than that if it can be avoided. A more conservative estimate would be spring of 2023 for the You season 4 release date. That’s about 18 months after season 3 premieres.

I hope we don’t have to wait that long. For now, our prediction is we’ll be seeing You season 4 on Netflix in Q4 2022, which is October-December 2022.

You season 4 cast

Well, there’s only one confirmed cast member for You season 4, and that is Penn Badgley. After You season 3, we know Joe Goldberg — or should we call him Nick? — is back for season 4. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Love actress Victoria Pedretti or most of the rest of the season 3 cast.

According to a new report from Deadline, Euphoria and The White Lotus star Lukas Gage has been cast in You season 4 as a character named Adam! The publication describes the role as:

"He’s famous for spectacularly failing to meet the standards of his successful, venerable family. An entrepreneur and a gambler, Adam is a warm and funny party host and fast friend. But underneath, Adam is hiding a trove of secrets and papering over problems with heavy self-medication."

Sounds like a potential problem for Joe!

It will be really interesting to see where the story goes in You season 4, because many of those characters could return. The ones who survived, at least. If Joe returns to Madre Linda, we could see Dylan Arnold, Scott Speedman, Shalita Grant, Travis Van Winkle, Ben Mehl, and the rest of the cast in season 3. I’m not so sure we have seen the last of Dottie Quinn, played by Saffron Burrows, either.

I’m also hoping that we could see Victoria Pedretti in season 4 in flashbacks or if she somehow survived the fire and poisoning. I know it’s unlikely, but my hope is that season 4 is about Love tracking down Joe and making him pay.

It’s not out of the question to see Tati Gabrielle in You season 4, but I think that ship (Joe and Marienne) my have sailed.

3/25/22: Gabrielle is confirmed to be returning with season 4, as revealed by new set photos!

We’ve also learned that Charlotte Ritchie has joined the cast of You season 4 and will play the new female lead opposite of Badgley. The Britsh Ghosts actress will play a character named Kate.

According to Deadline, Kate is “smart, independent, suspicious, misses nothing. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, a brick wall to everyone else. The daughter of a chaotic, bohemian single mother, Kate worked hard to create the life she now leads.”

We also know that she is an art gallery director and is very protective of her best friend Lady Phoebe, “a sweet and trusting person whose extreme wealth and fame tend to attract opportunists.”

Rather than love, Kate prefers casual “arrangements” and has started dating a partier named Malcolm who invites Joe into their world. Kate takes an immediate disliking to Joe.

You season 4 plot synopsis

After the events of the You season 3 finale, there are a lot of directions the show could go in. We know Joe is free and believed to be dead, but we don’t know the motivations of any of the other characters. We’re suspecting a person or two from Joe’s past won’t believe he’s truly dead.

I’m curious to see if Joe goes back to Madre Linda to find Henry in You season 4. We know that Joe doesn’t think he could be a good father, so that’s something to watch in the new season, as well. I’m also curious if You season 4 will follow Caroline Kepnes’ new book in the You book series, titled You Love Me. It follows Joe to a small town after he’s sick of the big city life. It appears that the show has gone off-book, so it’s unclear if the show will follow that pattern.

Regardless, we know Joe is going to find a new person to become obsessed with in season 4. That’s a given!

Will his past finally catch up to him? We’ll find out in the new season.

3/25/22: In addition to the Kate casting announcement, the intel on her character reveals a lot about season 4. We touched on it above by mentioning Kate and her boyfriend Malcolm, but here is the full extent of new details, from Deadline:

"When Malcolm invites Joe (Badgley), an American outsider of no apparent means, into their privileged world, Kate not only immediately dislikes him, she strongly suspects something about the man is not what he seems."

It sounds like Kate is going to be a threat for Joe. Will he be able to charm her?
