7 awesome shows to watch after The Witcher season 2
By Bryce Olin
Fans all over the world are finishing The Witcher season 2 on Netflix. The new season premiered in December 2021, and it’s currently the No.1 Netflix show in the world.
After you finish the new season, you probably 1.) want to know when The Witcher season 3 is coming out and 2.) need a new show to watch.
Well, The Witcher season 3 is happening. It’s in the works and should start production sometime in 2022, although we’ll probably have to wait until 2023 to watch the new season. The Witcher: Blood Origin is coming in 2022, though!
We shared a list of six shows to watch after The Witcher season 2.
Shows like The Witcher
Overall, there’s nothing really like The Witcher on TV right now, and probably won’t be for a long time. There are some good fantasy shows available to stream right now, though, along with some historical dramas worth your time.
Let’s get the list started with The Wheel of Time.
The Wheel of Time
The Wheel of Time is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video right now. The new series is based on the book series of the same name and follows Morraine, played by Rosamund Pike, who is trying to find the “chosen one” in a world full of magic and monsters.
You can watch the full first season on Friday, Dec. 24.
Shadow and Bone
Shadow and Bone is based on the Grishaverse books from Leigh Bardugo. The first season premiered on Netflix in April 2021, and it’s already been renewed for season 2, although we might be waiting a long time for the new season.
Shadow and Bone is a little bit less dark than The Witcher, but it’s full of drama, action, romance, and magic. Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), a mapmaker with the Ravkan army, is pulled into a new world when it’s revealed that she has the powers to change her country’s future and the world.
The Last Kingdom
The Last Kingdom is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwall. There are four seasons of the hit series on Netflix, and The Last Kingdom season 5 is coming to Netflix very soon.
The series follows Uhtred, a Geralt-like figure, as he fights for various sides in battles between the Saxons and Danes.
Barbarians
Barbarians is a German original series that focuses the members of a small village that takes on the Romans. There is one season on Netflix, and Barbarians season 2 is already in the works.
This show is more like The Last Kingdom, but it’s still a worthy watch after The Witcher season 2.
Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is an obvious pick since everyone thought The Witcher would be Netflix’s answer for Game of Thrones. Obviously, these shows are so incredibly different, but I think if you like one, there’s probably a decent enough chance you’ll like the other.
Vikings: Valhalla
Vikings: Valhalla is coming to Netflix on Feb. 25, 2021. So, you can’t watch it right now, but you’ll want to as soon as it’s released! It’s set a century after the events of the first Vikings series, which premiered on The History Channels almost a decade ago.
The new series follows Leif Erikson and other famous characters during the time period. You’re in for a treat with this new show!
The Witcher: Blood Origin
The Witcher: Blood Origin is coming to Netflix in 2022. We don’t have a confirmed release date yet, but the spinoff just wrapped production in November 2021, so we’re expecting it won’t be released until later in 2022.
Watch the trailer for Blood Origin (above). It looks great!
