5 best romantic movies on Netflix in 2021

Netflix released some of its best original movies in 2021, and fans of the romance genre were certainly spoiled this year with handfuls of the best romantic movies on the streaming service.

Between tear-jerking romance dramas to heartwarming holiday romantic comedies, love was most definitely in the air on Netflix in 2021. We couldn’t get enough of these movies, especially with stars like Shailene Woodley, Nina Dobrev, and Zendaya in the lead.

The romance genre saw new additions to a pair of Netflix trilogies, a reboot of a ’90s teen rom-com (that we maybe wouldn’t call one of the best), and so many more great new originals that had our hearts racing in 2021.

From the final chapter of the To All the Boys saga to hit original Christmas movie Love Hard, there were lots of romantic movies to love on Netflix this year. Here are five of Netflix’s best romantic movies in 2021.

The Last Letter from Your Lover

Based on the novel of the same name by Me Before You author Jojo Moyes, Felicity Jones stars in The Last Letter from Your Lover as a journalist piecing together a love story from the 1960s based on the discovery of a series of love letters.

Shailene Woodley also stars in the romantic drama film that earned mixed reception from critics but was one of the summer’s best new original movies on Netflix. If you’re a romance fanatic, this one’s sure to be a new favorite to add to your regular lineup.

Love Hard

One of the many new Christmas movies on Netflix in 2021, Love Hard stars Nina Dobrev as a single woman who finds herself getting catfished during the holiday season. The romantic comedy was sweeter than a candy cane and is now an annual Christmas must-watch.

Malcolm & Marie

Although some Netflix viewers didn’t particularly fall head over heels for Malcolm & Marie, you really can’t ever go wrong with Zendaya. The black-and-white film centers on an embattled couple who argue through the cracks in their relationship.

It might not have lived up to the high expectations set for it, considering its another collaboration between the Emmy-winning Zendaya and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, but there will never be a Zendaya movie that’s not worth watching.

To All the Boys: Always and Forever

Along with The Kissing Booth 3, Netflix brought its most popular teen rom-com franchise To All the Boys to a close with the third and final film. Fans got everything they wanted with the delightful final entry, and there will be more to love in the upcoming spinoff series XO, Kitty.

Sounds Like Love

The Spanish romantic comedy Sounds Like Love was probably one of the more underrated romantic movies on Netflix in 2021, but it’s no less deserving of the spotlight. A charming love story, a handsome male lead, and a humorous take on modern romance… What’s not to love?

Of course, there are plenty more Netflix originals worthy of mention on the best romantic movies of 2021 list, such as the Christmas romantic comedy Single All the Way, Swedish drama JJ+E, and comedy Resort to Love.
