Netflix has some great shows, but not all of them live up to their potential or the hype they receive pre- or post-release. Some are hugely overrated Netflix shows, and some just have a few issues that can easily be fixed with some clever writing.

Sometimes, Netflix puts all their money behind a show that turns out to be awful, and sometimes, viewers latch onto a show that isn’t that great.

But it also should be said that TV shows, movies, books, or whatever media you love are entirely subjective. What I like might be complete trash to you and what you like might make me roll my eyes a bit.

That being said, no genre was spared from the list. There’s horror, romance, thrillers, teen dramas, fantasy, comedy, reality shows, and a ton of book-to-TV adaptations. Netflix loves to adapt a book into a series, and they don’t always do it justice.

Based on this list I compiled, chances are one of your faves is on here. Unless your fave is Stranger Things or The Witcher. Yes, they both have problems in their writing from time to time, but I love them. But that’s not to say some of my faves aren’t on this list, too. There are a few, and you’ll know when you get to them.

So, let’s take a look at 15 of the most overrated Netflix shows of 2021.

Why It’s Overrated: I know y’all love this show, but I just could not do it. I gave it a season, but the acting and the storylines made me want to cringe. I don’t totally understand why this of all the books was chosen to be made into a show. Especially a show for Netflix.

Virgin River gives off Hallmark and Lifetime movie vibes. If it was on one of those channels, I would totally understand it. But Netflix? And they’ve already renewed it for season 4 and season 5.

I don’t get the popularity. It’s nothing new. A woman with a difficult past moves to a small town and falls in love while dealing with the drama in the town. It could be a soap opera (which I guess explains the number of seasons because soap operas go on forever). And this series has 19 books, as of now. There is no way Netflix will run it that long, right? Right??

Why are so many people watching this? If you like the level of drama, awesome. I get that. But there are better shows.

If you like a light, happy show, this is not it. There is a disease, a death, a relationship issue, or a crime being committed at least a couple of times per season, if not once an episode. So what’s the draw? Why the popularity? To me, it’s so overrated.
