Blockbuster release date

Remember the good old days where Friday nights consisted of take-out pizza and a few exciting rentals from Blockbuster? Before Netflix, the video chain was all the rage and movie-lovers could not stay away from the store for more than a week’s time. What a blast from the past.

Well, funny enough, Netflix is now releasing a scripted show all about the video store, appropriately titled Blockbuster. The upcoming comedy stars comedian Randall Park (Always Be My MaybeFresh Off the Boat) and Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). It will follow Blockbuster workers who must fight to keep the business alive. Here’s the official logline from Netflix:

"An ensemble comedy that takes place in the last Blockbuster Video in America, that explores what it takes – and more specifically who it takes – for a small business to succeed against all odds."

It’s been confirmed that this new series will debut on Netflix on Nov. 3, 2022!

If you’re craving some Blockbuster content in the meantime, Netflix released a documentary called The Last Blockbuster back in 2020 which covered the very-last Blockbuster in America, located in Bend, Oregon.
