It looks like we’ll be seeing a new comedy series called Blockbuster on Netflix in the near future, and we can’t wait to see it! We’re going to share with you everything we know about this upcoming comedy series.

If you were wondering whether the Netflix original centers around a Blockbuster store, we’re here to tell you that it does. All the ’90s kids know how important Blockbuster was in their childhoods. As a kid, you’d dream of the day your parents would take you to a Blockbuster store and allow you to pick up whatever movie or video game you want.

You could go to a Blockbuster store and rent almost any movie or video game you could think of. Of course, the atmosphere inside the store played a part in the experience as well. Everyone just seemed so happy all the time. Honestly, talking about Blockbuster brings back a sense of nostalgia.

Now with Netflix ordering the comedy series Blockbuster, we get to see that blue movie ticket stub, ripped on one side logo once again. Read on to find out the upcoming comedy series release date, cast, synopsis, and more.

Blockbuster synopsis

The show follows the video store workers as they struggle to keep the business from closing. These workers are employees in the last remaining Blockbuster store in America, and they must find a way to keep the store afloat. There will be a lot of drama, but remember this is a comedy, so you’ll be laughing a lot.

Here’s the synopsis via the Netflix press release below:

"Timmy Yoon (Randall Park) Is an analog dreamer living in a 5G world. And after learning he is operating the last Blockbuster Video in America, Timmy and his staff employees (including his long-time crush, Eliza (Melissa Fumero) fight to stay relevant. The only way to succeed is to remind their community that they provide something big corporations can’t: human connection."

Blockbuster episode count

This series will consist of 10 episodes, with each episode having a runtime of 30 minutes.

When is Blockbuster filming?

Production started sometime at the end of February 2022 with a tentative wrap date on May 2. However, it looks like production was still in progress on May 2 because Melissa Fumero posted an Instagram story saying that filming is almost done. On May 5, the Director of Photography for Blockbuster posted a photo on Instagram of a camera in front of a Blockbuster store.

We shared the caption below:

"Wrap shot. @thatvanessaramos created a such a fun world for us to play in for 3 months, and I cannot WAIT for you to see this show!! I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of this very special project, with some amazing talent and kind-hearted souls who treated me with kindness and made collaboration beyond rewarding. Thank you Vanessa, David, Jackie and @paymanbenz for bringing me along — I have… no notes. What a ride! The cast, the crew, the memories… one for the books. I’m so damn proud of what we did here. Get ready, you’re gonna fall in love with #Blockbuster on @Netflix and laugh your ass off. #Season1 #Cinematography #ComedyForever #KindnessIsMagic #Grateful"
