Netflix shows like Game of Thrones

The Game of Thrones universe will be expanding over the next few years, leaving many fans looking for alternatives to keep them busy until the new shows arrive. Many have ventured to the four corners of the seven kingdoms searching for a program that could somewhat live up to the unprecedented rise and fall experienced by the award-winning HBO original, and all that was found was the same disappointment most viewers went through during the final season.

There is no denying the show was one of the biggest dramas the realm of the small screen had ever seen and set the bar pretty high for the scripted series. Finding something not only to fill the void left behind from the Sunday night tradition but also to help get the vile taste left behind from the final outing that somehow both stumbled and sprinted to finish the line in a disastrous fashion.

Several spinoffs have been announced since the dud of a series finale aired, including the passed on Bloodmoon, the upcoming House of the Dragon, and the recently revealed 10,000 Ships, 9 Voyages, and a project that will be set in Flea Market, the poorest slum in King’s Landing. George R.R. Martin has also signed a mega-deal with HBO, indicating there’s more GOT to come, and it is no wonder why those that can’t bear to watch the eight season freefall again need some alternatives to enjoy until everyone can see if the next people can get a Game of Thrones show done right.

Fortunately for all those in need, Netflix has put together a solid lineup of originals that all bring something to the table that Game of Thrones fans will appreciate. Here are five GOT alternatives exclusively available on Netflix.

Is The Witcher related to Game of Thrones?

One thing that Game of Thrones had going for it was it already had a massive fanbase from the book series the show was based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling series of novels were already a global phenomenon before the HBO original and the fact that fanatical drama had some exceptional story elements to adapt didn’t hurt things either.

It would make sense that another set of books with a successful run and large following would also be a solid indicator of another enthralling fantasy drama. The Witcher, based on the books of Andrzej Sapkowski, stars Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s Henry Cavill, as the titular character, a witcher who hunts monsters for coin using his supernatural abilities he gets from his mutations.

Ancient prophecies, shapeshifting treachery, large-scale battles, and a slew of intriguing characters make up this Netflix original series that has eight-episode ready to binge. Unlike Game of Thrones, The Witcher has much more creatures to offer than just dragons and is definately a fitting choice for any GOT fan.
