What is Eagle Fang Karate in Cobra Kai season 3?

Couldn’t Johnny have come up with a better name than Eagle Fang for his dojo in Cobra Kai season 3?

Johnny only ever knew one sensei and one dojo: Kreese and Cobra Kai. It’s no wonder when he first decided to open his own dojo he simply resurrected the one he knew. No need to think up a new name. The old one was perfect.

After Kreese swooped in and stole Cobra Kai 2.0 from him, it didn’t look like Johnny would open another one.

And who could blame him? It hadn’t gone very well the first time and had almost gotten Miguel killed.

Speaking of Miguel, he was a big reason Johnny had even opened Cobra Kai to begin with. He was also a big reason Johnny decided to try again with a new dojo.

But when he did, he had to come up with a new name.

Miguel also tried to help him with that. Thankfully. Some of Johnny’s suggestions could have resulted in unfortunate abbreviations, like his idea to keep the name Cobra Kai Karate but change the “C” to a “K.”

Good grief. As Miguel pointed out, that would’ve resulted in triple Ks, an abbreviation that’s already taken, not to mention tainted.

It was fun to see a third dojo being added to the Netflix original series, though. Even a little exciting to anticipate what Johnny would call it.

However, was anyone else thinking he could have come up with a better name than Eagle Fang Karate?

In Johnny’s twisted way, Eagle Fang made perfect sense to him. He clearly had no clue when he asked his students what could defeat a cobra and Bert correctly stated a mongoose could that Bert was telling the truth. Johnny scoffed at such a ludicrous suggestion, and in his defense…it’d be a little hard to take a dojo with “mongoose” in the name seriously or feel very threatened by them.

He had a point. They were up against the likes of Kreese. They did need something tough.

His flawed and misguided rationale that cobras may be kings of the jungle but the world is bigger than a jungle and the only animal that can kill snakes are eagles made perfect sense to him.

It also incorporated part of the name of one of his favorite movies, Iron Eagle.

Still, Eagle Fang…it just doesn’t quite cut it.

Just about any other name would’ve been better, like one of these:

  1. Strike First Karate – Why not use part of Cobra Kai’s beloved motto?
  2. Strike Hard Karate – The second part of the motto works too!
  3. First Strike Karate – A variation on the theme.
  4. No Mercy Karate or No Mercy Mauraders – He’d understand the No Mercy, but “marauders” might prove too cerebral for Johnny, and it might take too much time to explain to him what a marauder is.
  5. Iron Eagle Karate – That could’ve resulted in a cool logo.
  6. Fists of Iron or Iron Fists Karate – Either way sounds tough and could also inspire an equally tough logo.
  7. Iron Claw Karate – This would’ve made a lot more sense than an eagle with fangs, but still couldn’ve incorporated the eagle image…maybe even with a snake grasped in its talon? That really would’ve sent a message!

Although, will they even end up keeping the Eagle Fang name since they merged with Miyagi-do at the end of season 3? Will they merge the names too? Or will they create a whole new one? Will they even be able to stick together the whole time? Or will something divide them again?

Just one more thing to look forward to in season 4!
