Does Miguel come out of the coma and survive the fall on Cobra Kai season 3?

Cobra Kai season 2 ended with a mother of a cliffhanger. A schoolwide brawl between the members of rivals gangs from Cobra Kai and Miyagi-do broke out on the first day back to school. Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) showed Robby (Tanner Buchanan) mercy during their personal battle, but Robby took advantage of Miguel’s pause to leap up and kick him over a balcony.

Miguel landed on his back and ended up in a coma. So what happens to Miguel in Cobra Kai season 3? Does he live?

I’ll cut straight to it. Yes, Miguel survives.

However, it’s questionable at first whether he’ll come out of the coma or not. He stays in it for a while.

We also get a little scare that he died. His sensei, John Lawrence (William Zabka), gets arrested and put in jail after a bar fight. The officer who arrests him says Miguel is dead. But then he clarifies that he means it’s not common for people who are in comas for two weeks to recover.

That lights a fire under John to finally go see Miguel, which he’s avoided doing. He knows Miguel’s mom doesn’t want him anywhere near her son, but John realizes if anything does happen to Miguel he’ll never forgive himself for not going to see him.

His visit comes at a perfect time. We get a glimpse inside Miguel’s mind while he’s in the coma. Naturally, he’s engaged in a karate match, but surprisingly his opponent isn’t Robby.

How does Miguel wake up on Cobra Kai season 3?

At one point it looks like he might be losing, but that’s right when his sensei finds a way to sneak into his room. John tells Miguel not to give up and reminds him he’s a fighter, a champ, and that he knows Miguel has the power to come out of it.

That’s what Miguel needed. Suddenly he roars back and defeats his opponent. The ref yells, “Point! Winner!” Miguel opens his eyes.

But his battle isn’t over. He can’t feel his toes at first. The doctor isn’t sure he’ll walk again.

He doesn’t want to see his sensei at first either, but then they make amends and Miguel’s mom even relents and allows John to help with Miguel’s rehab.

John has some unconventional methods for getting Miguel back on his feet. He literally lights a fire under him, which catches Miguel’s leg on fire. He also takes him to a Dee Snyder concert, which actually is where Miguel starts tapping his toes.

After that, the training to strengthen his legs and get Miguel back to walking is on in earnest. It pays off. Miguel makes a full recovery!

Will Miguel do karate again?

But he’s still got other problems. He wants to return to karate but the Cobra Kai he knew is no more. Kreese has stolen the dojo from Sensei Lawrence. Hawk and the others he thought were his friends have become ruthless bullies with their sights set on exacting revenge against anyone in Miyagi-do. He doesn’t want any part of that.

He still wants to learn from his sensei though, so he helps John start a second dojo. Because Kreese cuts the “weaker” kids from Cobra Kai, they join Miguel at Eagle Fang Karate, the name of the new dojo.

But Miguel struggles. Because he’s still recovering from his injuries, his legs are weak. He can’t fight like he did before.

But he gets help from not only Sam but also her dad, Daniel. That’s how Miguel learns more about the rivalry between John and Cobra Kai and Daniel and Miyagi-do. He has a new appreciation that not all is at it seems and there are two sides to every story.

That’s why he wants Eagle Fang Karate and Miyagi-do to join forces. Miguel wants all animosity over and done with.

Sam and Miguel actually want Eagle Fang and Miyagi-do to train together. At first, the Miyagi-do members are opposed.

But Cobra Kai makes it clear if you’re not with them, you’re against them.

Miguel and the newly formed Eagle Fangs find themselves in a brawl with Miyagi-do against their former dojo when Hawk, Tory and the other current Cobra Kais crash a party at Sam’s house.

Miguel faces off against Kyler (Joe Seo), the boy who first bullied him and was the reason he turned to John for karate lessons. Kyler’s learned a lot from Kreese and Miguel still isn’t 100 percent, so it looks like Kyler is going to best him. But he says something that both anger and motivates Miguel to tap his inner strength and emerge the victor.

It’s almost as intense a battle as the schoolwide brawl in season 2. It also proves to both Miyagi-do and Eagle Fang that they have no choice but to work together.

What will happen to Miguel on Cobra Kai season 4?

So that’s what happens to Miguel in Cobra Kai season 3, but what will that mean for season 4? Will will see him face off against Robby in the All Valley tournament?

The stakes couldn’t be higher if he does because it’ll be winner takes all. The senseis of the dojos –John, Daniel and Kreese– have agreed that whichever dojo wins the tournament, wins the right to keep their dojo open. The others have to go.

Is Miguel up to the challenge? We’ll find out as soon as the next installment of the Netflix original series comes to the streamer.
