Once the clock strikes midnight PT, Netflix will remove The Office and it will no longer be available to stream. That means, The Office is leaving Netflix in three weeks, as of today, Dec. 10, 2020.

The Office has been set to leave Netflix for a while. It’s been rumored for a few years, but it wasn’t official until this summer when Netflix officially confirmed those rumors.

The Office isn’t the only big show leaving Netflix in December. There are some other major shows leaving Netflix soon.

Why is The Office leaving Netflix?

Netflix licensed The Office for the last several years, but recently, the streaming rights for the series were set to expire. Netflix tried to keep the series, according to NBC News, but they were outbid.

It’s not exactly Netflix’s fault that the streaming network is losing the most popular series on the streaming service. NBCU launched Peacock, a new streaming service, and paid a significant amount ($500 million) to bring the series to Peacock for the next five years.

Clearly, Peacock is trying to boost its viewership and subscriptions by adding The Office. The series is super popular, still, so it makes sense that Peacock would make a move like this.

I’m skeptical fans of the series will flock to Peacock just to watch The Office, but I’ve been wrong before. We’ll just have to see what happens next year.

Will The Office return to Netflix?

It’s possible that Netflix could add The Office again in the future. Peacock has the rights to the series for the next five years, so it’s likely that Netflix could pick up The Office in 2026.

I’m still not quite sure that Peacock is built for the long haul. There’s a lot of money behind the streaming service, but it doesn’t seem to be off to a great start. If the streaming service collapses, it’s possible that The Office could be available again. I don’t think that will happen anytime soon.
