Is Eleven based on Jean Grey and Dark Phoenix?

Everyone loves Eleven from Stranger Things. Ever since she used her powers to protect her new friends, people gravitated toward her. She bravely stepped and saved the day. There were memes made like, “In a world of tens, be an Eleven.” You know you’ve made it when you have Funko Pops made of you. She has at least half a dozen available on Amazon. Probably more that are exclusive to certain events and stores. It isn’t just Netflix fans that have gravitated towards her. Comic book fans have taken notice as well.

Comic book fans have taken a liking to Eleven because of her powers. In almost every comic book company, there’s someone with telekinesis or telepathy. The most popular among them is the X-Men’s Jean Grey. She isn’t just the most well known, she’s one of the most powerful. Her abilities were amplified when she had the Phoenix Force in her. She became the strongest member of the X-Men and remained that way for years to come.

Stranger Things even references Jean Grey and X-Men #134 during the first season.

People have made the comparison between Jean Grey and Eleven. It’s usually only because of her telepathy and telekinesis. Although, there are other things that make them similar.
