Netflix’s First Kill release date, cast, synopsis, trailer and more

Is First Kill happening at Netflix?

Netflix has ordered First Kill, a sapphic teen vampire series from V.E. Schwab and Emma Roberts, according to Deadline.

October is the month that keeps on giving to fans of the supernatural. Coming on the heels of The CW’s announced development of Regina King produced, Slay, Netflix is planning to have their own teen slayer on its roster.

The streaming network ordered First Kill, a teen vampire series based on V.E. Schwab’s short story of the same name published in the YA anthology Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite.

Here’s what we know about the Netflix original so far.

First Kill Release Date

The sun has yet to set on whatever sleepy town First Kill will take place in, so there’s no news on when the vampires will be out on the prowl for prey. The earliest we can estimate is sometime in 2021, probably in the fall.

Netflix has been on a bit of a canceling spree lately citing COVID concerns and the cost of production. Some shows that still remain on the roster have been delayed as they work out protocols moving forward. In light of this, be prepared for a wait for this series to hit a screen near you.

First Kill Cast

No casting news yet, but we do know some of the behind the scenes talent that will be shaping this world. EW has announced that Schwab will be serving as creator, writer, and executive producer of First Kill, which is exciting news for fans. Authors aren’t often in control of the tv and film adaptations of their work, so the series having Schwab on board to help steer this ship is a plus.

Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher) is slated to take the reins of the series as showrunner and will also be credited as a writer and executive producer on the project.

What has many buzzing over First Kill is Emma Roberts’s involvement. She’ll be executive producing the series with her best friend, Karah Priess, under their media company Belletrist Productions which is quoted as having “an eye toward celebrating book lovers.”

Roberts is a star of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story anthology series and is no stranger to the speculative genres of horror and supernatural fiction.

First Kill Synopsis

First Kill will be an eight-episode drama centered on Juliette, a teenage vampire who is primed to take her first life. Once she does so, she’ll be able to claim her rightful place in her family, a powerful clan of vamps.

Juliette chooses Calliope as her mark. The girl is new in town, so it seems like it’d be an easy kill, but it’s not. Unfortunately for Juliette, Calliope is a vampire hunter descended from a long line of slayers. Instead of doing the hunting, Juliette finds herself being the hunted.

Neither girl, however, seems to be able to succeed in their mission to end the other’s life and the more they get to know one another, the more they begin to fall in love.

If you think this sounds like Killing Eve with a side of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for young adults, you’re not alone in that thought. A sapphic teen romance between a slayer and a vampire is going to take over the internet, we’re calling it now!

First Kill Trailer

If First Kill had a trailer it would currently be all over your feed. We’re in the middle of the spookiest month of the year. Trust us, you’d have been bitten by now if there were even a scrap of content for this series out there.

We’ll keep you posted when more news drops but until then get ready, y’all, we’re going hunting in the nebulous future!
