Emma Roberts has been acting since she made her acting debut in the movie Blow at the age of 10. Roberts spent time on set with her aunt, Julia Roberts sparking her interest in becoming an actor herself. Twenty years later, Roberts is now a mother and has played many other roles, and Netflix has seven of those titles available to stream.

Being a child who grew up with relatives in the acting world, it isn’t a surprise that Roberts would grow up to be part of this industry. Her father, Eric Roberts, has an acting career that spans over 40 years. She has two aunts in the business as well, Lisa Roberts Gillan and Academy Award-winner Julia Roberts. Her grandmother Betty Lou Bredemus was an acting coach as well.

Roberts’ role on the Nickelodeon teen series Unfabulous allowed her to explore her talent as a singer, which led to the release of her debut album Unfabulous and More. However, she’s best known for her work on screen in some of these must-watch titles.

Wild Child is a teen comedy released in 2008 about a wealthy Malibu teen who gets sent to boarding school.

Poppy (Emma Roberts) is a pampered and spoiled Malibu teen. Her father, Gerry (Aidan Quinn), a wealthy widow, sends her off to boarding school after she pulls off a wild prank. Her rude and selfish behavior doesn’t impress anyone at the school. Her experience at the school and the new friends she meets will help her learn what life is really about and the true meaning of friendship.

Paradise Hills

The science fantasy thriller Paradise Hills is the story of Uma (Emma Roberts), a young woman sent to Paradise, a behavioral modification center for women who have displeased their families.

When Uma wakes up on an island called Paradise with no memory of how she got there, she knows things are amiss. She meets other women who have also been sent to this island to be formed into the person their families want them to be. Uma starts to do some late-night investigating, and what she finds out will help spark Uma and the others to plan an escape before it is too late.

Also starring Danielle Macdonald, Awkwafina, Jeremy Irvine, Arnaud Valois, Eiza González and Milla Jovovich.

Hotel for Dogs

This 2009 family comedy marks Thor Freudenthal’s directorial debut. Hotel for Dogs is a fun, lighthearted story of two orphaned siblings who secretly take in stray dogs.

Andi (Emma Roberts) and Bruce (Jake T. Austin) are orphaned children living in foster care with foster parents who really don’t seem to care for them or their dog, Friday. When their dog goes missing, they find him in an abandoned hotel that also houses two other strays. The kids fix up the hotel and end up hosting an unofficial animal shelter. What could go wrong?

I Am Michael

The biographical film I Am Michael stars James Franco, Zachary Quinto, Emma Roberts and Charlie Carver. The film is based on Benoit Denizet-Lewis’ New York Times Magazine article “My Ex-Gay Friend.”

Franco plays Michael Glatze, a gay activist who renounces homosexuality and becomes a Christian pastor. This film tackles a difficult subject, and I think Mick LaSalle from the San Francisco Chronicle puts it best when he states, “Franco gives a sensitive performance, and this is a film worth seeing, but it’s not easy to see.”
