The Lion King (2019) made over a billion dollars, but it was a poor rendition

The Lion King is one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time. It had everything we came to love from an animated Disney project. The characters were memorable. Simba, Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa are still fan favorites.

Two decades later and we can still recite the songs without the lyrics. In fact, “Hakuna-matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” may be the most well known Disney songs of all time. And, the story was superb.

It wasn’t shocking when a live action remake was announced. Having megastars like Beyoncé and Donald Glover involved weren’t surprises either. What was shocking is that the remake was a poor representation of the original.

This will be an unpopular opinion. The new Lion King is loved by people who saw the original in theaters and the newer generation. However, in comparison, it wasn’t a good project. And I won’t even begin on this not being live action or Pumbaa looking frightening (wait, never mind).

Before you think this is an old guy upset that they remade a classic, that isn’t the case. In a previous article, this writer wrote that the Aladdin remake may have been better than the original. Yes, that statement may be blasphemous to some, but it could be true.

If that isn’t reason enough, let’s take a look at everything wrong with the 2019’s Lion King and also give credit where it’s due. Oh, and you can watch both movies with your Disney Plus subscription.
