The Lion King remake is a poor version of the original movie
By Mark Lynch
Beyoncé and Donald Glover
Might as well get this out of the way now. Beyoncé and Donald Glover were not that good in this movie. Both of them are A-list celebrities with an overabundance of talent. Donald Glover is an accomplished rapper, comedian, writer, producer, and so much more. And he’s just getting started.
Beyoncé’s celebrity is internationally known. She’s probably the most famous person in the world. Not just for her music. She’s a charitable woman who stands tall and proud in defiance of people who hate her for being a woman and being black. All that said, they fell short in The Lion King.
Donald Glover and Beyoncé’s version of Can you feel the Love Tonight sounds good, but lacked the same kind of emotion that the original did. At no point did it seem like there was any love in the song. Honestly, it seemed phoned in. A voice like Jennifer Hudson could have voiced Nala and sang that song. But Beyoncé is a bigger name. Beyoncé could read the phone book for two hours and people would flock to theaters.
In terms of Donald Glover, he lacked the same jovial nature of the original Simba. The disappointing part of that is Glover can play that role. We’ve seen him do it in multiple cameos and in Community. In the end, it wasn’t his fault. It may have been that the creative staff didn’t want this Simba to be like the original. Either way, it was a forgettable performance from them both.
