The OA was canceled at Netflix after two seasons, but fans have taken to social media to try to save the series starring Brit Marling.

Fans of the canceled Netflix original series The OA took to Twitter on Tuesday, with the #TheOAisReal with hopes to save their beloved show, according to a report from Decider.

Earlier this month, Netflix announced The OA was canceled after season 2. The show will not be returning for a third season on the streaming network.

The OA was billed as the next Stranger Things upon its hyped debut back in 2016. However, despite having a fantastic first season, the show never took off like its successful cousin. What little momentum the show had following its first season soon dwindles as the show didn’t return until May 2019, nearly three years after its first season ended.

While never reaching the heights of Stranger Things (few shows do), The OA built a substantial following, and that following came out in full force on Twitter today to show Netflix how much they love their now canceled show.

Frustrated fans, who have witnessed Netflix cancel more than a few fan favorites in recent months, are hoping this campaign will move Netflix to give the series closure.

With season 2 ending on a cliffhanger, maybe today’s campaign can generate enough social buzz for Netflix to give The OA a finale movie like they did previously with Sense8.

Fan frustration with the streaming giant is pretty high with the recent cancellations, including The OA. The current Netflix business model does raise an interesting question. If the Netflix, going forward, is planning to build around new shows to bring in new subscribers, how will those new subscribers have faith in the company that the show they’re paying to watch will give them closure they deserve?

Do you take the time to watch knowing that it might not have an ending? That’s one of the dilemmas Netflix fans are facing with some of the network’s programming.

With streaming war looming, this is one lesson that Netflix can learn from its network rivals. Even the networks kept around the proven winners to build around, and The OA seemed to be one of those shows.
