The Umbrella Academy officially renewed for season 2 at Netflix

Netflix renewed The Umbrella Academy starring Ellen Page and Aiden Gallagher for season 2 and announced the news in a renewal announcement video.

It’s official; The Umbrella Academy is coming back for season 2 at Netflix. The streaming network confirmed the renewal the way they do with most Netflix original renewals: a video posted on social media.

This renewal should come as no surprise for Netflix subscribers. Umbrella Academy is considered to be one of Netflix’s best new shows of 2019, and it’s been incredibly popular since it premiered on the streaming service back in February.

There have been a few reports since the premiere date that claimed Umbrella Academy season 2 had already received the green light from Netflix, but this is the first time Netflix has confirmed those reports.

The renewal announcement features one of the final scenes of the first season, so maybe don’t watch it (below) if you haven’t finished the season yet.

According to a report from Deadline, the main characters from the first season will all be back in season 2. Ellen Page, Aiden Gallagher, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, and Justin Min will all be back for season 2. And, that should be great news to fans!

Based on the end of the second season, there was some debate if the Umbrella Academy heroes would return as their adult selves. It appears they will, and that’s great news because this was and is a great cast!

Deadline is also reporting the season will consist of 10 episodes like the first season. I think that’s the perfect number for this series. The 13-episode series that Netflix used to make often seemed to feel like a drag in the middle.

It’s unclear when exactly Umbrella Academy season 2 will be released on Netflix. I’m guessing it will take a while to film and edit and then promote the next season. With that in mind, it seems like a summer or fall 2020 release date is the most likely time we’ll see season 2.
