CBS All Access bid to save One Day at a Time and bring the show back for another season, but Netflix could block the move based on their current deal with Sony.

CBS All Access has been rumored to be interested in saving One Day at a Time, basically, since the show was canceled at Netflix and started being shopped around. There haven’t been many big developments until now.

According to a report from Vulture, CBS All Access “submitted an official bid” to save One Day at a Time and bring the series back for another season. As far as we know, they are the first network to try to pick up the series for a new season.

So, One Day at a Time is coming back for a new season at CBS All Access, right? Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.

As Vulture reports, Netflix’s deal with Sony TV gives Netflix veto rights over One Day at a Time, which means that the show needs Netflix’s approval to continue on another network. And, right now, it doesn’t look like Netflix is very interested in letting the original series happen at another network.

Nothing is certain yet, so Netflix could change their mind. But, it’s not a good sign that Netflix isn’t willing to let the series go yet. Hopefully, they change their mind soon.

I just don’t see a scenario where Netflix stops this series from being saved at another network. First of all, Netflix has picked up many shows that had been canceled at other networks. It seems like they should pay their good fortune forward.

On top of that, Netflix released that statement about how much they loved the show and how it just didn’t get the ratings they needed, etc. If they really feel like this show is good for representation and diversity on TV, they need to let CBS All Access save this series. It’s the right thing to do.

Vulture is also reporting executive producer Norman Lear has contacted Netflix to try to urge them to allow the series to be saved.

Will Netflix allow CBS All Access to save One Day at a Time? We really hope so!
