Joe Goldberg and his (mis)adventures are coming to a close this spring season 5 of You. The final 10 episodes of this popular dark thriller will all start airing on April 24, 2025.
They gave a teaser during the filming of the last episodes in the summer of last year. Penn Badgley, who plays Joe Goldberg, noted to Netflix's Tudum, “Every season, they manage to find new space to make it interesting and relevant. And this season, I think somehow coming back to where it started allowed for it to just become grounded in the way that it needs to also have this kind of spectacular finish.”
The producers usually insist that any and every upcoming season will be epic, but this time around, with the final season of You, that just might be the case. There is quite a serious promise there that the fans of the series will be constantly kept at the edge of their seats.
What to expect in the final season of You?
Picking a cue from previous seasons, Goldberg comes back to New York to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Yet that perfect life he has been seeking is faced with a dual threat - the one from the ghosts of his past and the other from his deeply dark desires that are still there.
The season starts with Goldberg and his wife Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) coming back from London to New York after three years of absence. Kate becomes the CEO of the Lockwood Corporation; Joe is her loyal husband, who, in the eyes of the public, becomes a true prince charming. Yet, slowly, the duality of Goldberg’s persona starts showing both of its sides.
As the season evolves, Goldberg encounters a young woman, played by Madeleine Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale), who will make him ask questions about himself and his life, but he will have to have some serious dealings with the family of his wife, Kate. This further thickens the plot, promising some serious surprises.
As Michael Foley, one of the series’ executive producers, told Tudum, “We always said that we would stop after five and (that), in a perfect world, we would bring Joe back home to New York. We loved the idea of things coming full circle for him. We’re excited by the fact that Joe came home as such a different person than (who) we saw in Season 1. At the core of our final story for Joe is this dichotomy of the old and the new.”
With all the questions opened, what kind of resolution is to be expected? Both the producers and the cast are keeping the answers close to their chests, but judging by the previous seasons, the viewers are in for quite a few surprises.
