For those in the United States, Netflix releases The Hawk overnight, which you would think is the perfect time to release a new series. Most other streamers have started employing primetime releases for some of its biggest weekly originals. But for Netflix, it's actually the right time to not only debut a new comedy with A-list talent but one centered so heavily on golf.

While everyone might be completely consumed by soccer (or football, depending on what part of the world you live in) right now because of the ongoing World Cup, summer also happens to be a big season for golf tournaments. The Hawk's release goes hand-in-hand with one of the biggest summer sports, and how better to enter the world of golf than with laughs care of Will Ferrell?

What to expect from Will Ferrell in The Hawk on Netflix

In the new series, Ferrell plays legendary golfer Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, whose days at the top of the sport's leaderboard seem to be in his rearview mirror. Retirement seems to be the next step for Lonnie, but he's determined to defy the odds and complete the Grand Slam with one more one win. And he now has stiff competition from his own son, new hot shot player Lance (Jimmy Tatro).

Beyond Ferrell and Tatro, The Hawk's cast also features quite the who's who of the comedy world, with Molly Shannon portraying Lonnie's ex-wife Stacy and Fortune Feimster playing his friend Sam. Additionally, the cast includes Chris Parnell, Luke Wilson, Katelyn Carver, David Hornsby, Gabriel Hogan, and Aida Osman. Knowing Ferrell's pull, there could also be some fun surprises.

After the return of Netflix's other hit sports comedy Running Point, our watch lists are in need of some sports and some laughs combined together in one excellent mixture. Keep in mind, The Hawk is intended for mature audience given its TV-MA rating for language, violence, and substances. This might not be the right pick for family night even if it might be hilarious and goofy.

Watch The Hawk only on Netflix beginning on Thursday, July 16 at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.
