It's a great time to be a fan of The Hunting Wives because there are some major updates in store for the hit Netflix original drama series. After making quite the splash with its debut on the streaming service in July 2025, the series quickly earned a season 2 renewal, which is currently on its way for fans to enjoy. But a star also recently let it slip that season 3 could be on the way.

The Hunting Wives star Dermot Mulroney, who also appears in a series regular role on NBC's Chicago Fire, appeared on The Tangle podcast and dropped some new updates on The Hunting Wives season 2. The actor confirmed that the second season has wrapped filming, but he doesn't know when the episodes will drop. Netflix has confirmed that season 2 will be released in 2026.

Mulroney said, "Yes, we have completed season 2. I’m not certain or not able to tell you yet when that’s coming out. And even better news, is that season 3 is in prep. I think they’ve got writers in the room, and they’re cooking up a third season already. And that should begin filming in the fall. So, that’s great news for all the fans ofThe Hunting Wives."

He's right, that is even better news! As of June 2026, Netflix hasn't officially announced the renewal of The Hunting Wives season 3 (or shared the season 2 release date for that matter), but Mulroney revealed that the writer's room has opened. While it doesn't always lead to renewal, it's a common practice for Netflix to commission a writer's room in advance of formally renewing a new season.

The fact that The Hunting Wives season 3 already seems to be in active development isn't even the best part of the news. Mulroney also teased that filming could kick off on the third season in fall 2026, which would keep the show on track for an annual release on Netflix. The second season began filming in November 2025 and wrapped in March 2026 for a release later this year.

If season 3 does begin production this fall, that means the release date will follow sometime in late 2027. The Hunting Wives season 3's production schedule could also mean a significantly decreased role for Mulroney in Chicago Fire season 15, which One Chicago fans might not love. But their loss will be the gain of The Hunting Wives fans because we'll get more Jed Banks.

In addition to spilling some exciting tea about season 3's status, Mulroney also shared some of his insights on the show's unexpected success on Netflix and hinted at what's in the cards for Jed in season 2. "To be involved with something that really ripened on the vine is so exciting. And it’s a great character for me. I’m running for governor in, let’s say, an unscrupulous way, so that’s really fun to play," he shared on The Tangle.

While the first season adapted the novel of the same name by May Cobb, The Hunting Wives season 2 (and likely season 3) will not borrow its narrative from source material and will be the creation of showrunner Rebecca Cutter. Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman will be back to lead the cast as Sophie O'Neill and Margo Banks for another season that's sure to leave our jaws on the floor.
