What do the behind the scenes in the basketball look like? Kate Hudson stars as a female team owner executive who’s appointed to lead a team facing turmoil in the show, Running Point

Hudson plays the role of Isla Gordon, who’s the daughter of a legendary basketball owner that owns the team called the Los Angeles Wave, an alternative universe of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers. The show depicts various elements, not just from the real-life Lakers’ organization, but various situations from typical real-life Hollywood families that have happened in the past.

This show gives a preview of the challenges and obstacles that Hudson’s character faces as a team executive in a professional sports team, modeling the likes of Lakers President Jeannie Buss. For those who want to get into the sports business, are sports fans, and are curious about sports, this is for you.

The sports world

Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed to run the Los Angeles Waves as team president as her brother, Cam (Justin Theroux), is forced to be put into rehab. She runs the team along with her brothers, Sandy (Drew Tarver) and Ness (Scott MacArthur), as they are skeptical about how Isla will run the team.

Facing challenges over her role as a woman in a male-dominated world, Isla challenges the status quo in the sports world with her best friend, Ali (Brenda Song), and her half-brother, Jackie (Fabrizio Guido), by her side.

Isla discovers uncharted waters in her role dealing with all personalities both in the front office and the team as she attempts to lay down the law in order to reinforce a different working culture from her father’s culture. There’s only one that sticks to the family that has been carried out by their father having to be instilled in them, that’s been about being a winner.

Running Point on Netflix: Skip or Watch?

Running Point gives a reminiscence about the behind-the-scenes aspects not just in basketball ball, but in all of sports whether it’s football, baseball, or hockey when being owned by a family.

Whether it’s the Buss family running the NBA’s Lakers, the Jones family running the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, or the Steinbrenner family running the MLB’s New York Yankees, the show sees another element with families who own a major sports franchise.

Rotten Tomatoes gives the show a 77 percent with high remarks as Hudson’s performance gives the highest energy to connect with the audience. The show gives a Ted Lasso feel; it’s a slam dunk for those who are sports fans and those who loved watching other shows and movies that had female owners, including Major League (1989).

Hudson’s role takes on more of an interpersonal role in her show than she did with Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, who didn’t interfere much with team culture. Isla Gordon changed the culture of her sports organization after a period of disarray.

The energy in Running Point is different from the likes of Ted Lasso but takes all elements from real-life sports and Hollywood, which shows why Hudson’s show makes it both special and different.
