After notching another successful Netflix original movie in 2024 with Atlas, Jennifer Lopez is setting her Netflix return and getting back to her rom-com roots. The global superstar has been a romantic comedy staple and has shared the screen with many talented and handsome leading men, and this time around, she's working alongside a very funny Ted Lasso star.

Deadline reports that Lopez is set to star in the Netflix romantic comedy Office Romance with Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein, who's also co-writing the new movie. While there's no official synopsis for the upcoming rom-com yet, Deadline refers to Office Romance as "irreverent." Maybe Lopez and Goldstein's characters will be like Jim and Pam in another wacky office environment!

As with most of her movies, Lopez will executive produce Office Romance under her Nuyorican Films banner, which has a first-look deal with Netflix. Goldstein wrote the script with Joe Kelly, a writer and executive producer on Ted Lasso. Deadline didn't provide a window for production dates, so it's currently unclear when this exciting new title will be making its way to our watch lists.

Office Romance rom-com teams talented duo

With Office Romance on the horizon, Lopez is coming off back-to-back blockbusters with Netflix. The 2023 thriller The Mother become one of Netflix's most popular original movies of all time. To date, the film has amassed over 136 million views, which is enough to rank as the streamer's ninth most popular English-language movie of all time. That's super impressive!

Atlas arrived in 2024 and put up respectable numbers. While the sci-fi flick didn't exceed what The Mother was able to achieve, it was still among Netflix's biggest original movie debuts of the year, behind Damsel, The Union, Lift, and Rebel Ridge. In addition to her on-screen work at Netflix, as a producer, Lopez is also working on a series adaptation of Emily Henry's bestseller Happy Place.

Following his breakthrough in Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso, which won him two Emmy Awards, Goldstein has continued his work as an actor and a writer. He co-wrote and stars in the upcoming movie All of You, and he co-created and writes episodes of the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. The second season, which he also appears in, debuts this fall.

Lopez and Goldstein might not have been the romantic comedy duo we were expecting, but they will surely hit this one right out of the park. More than anything, Lopez's return to feature-length romantic comedies after the one-two punch of Marry Me and Shotgun Wedding in 2022 should be celebrated. Is it too much to ask for a new banger for the soundtrack, too?
