It is the weekend, Netflix fans! That hopefully means you can relax a bit and choose to binge-watch a series or several movies. But we also know that most people do not just have one subscription to a streaming service but many.
We thought we might help you choose what to see. Two of the following series or movies are on your favorite streamer, but three are not. Maybe they will all end up on Netflix one day. That appears inevitable.
But this weekend? You will need to click on different channels or streaming services. Here is what to watch.
What to watch this weekend (April 4-6)
Paddington in Peru (Amazon)
The filmmakers who make Paddington deserve some kind of major award. Every film is a gem. Paddington 2, for instance, might be one of the best films made this century. And, no...that is not a joke.
This edition finds Paddington taking a trip to Peru to try to find his missing aunt. While there, he and the Brown family find treasure. The hijinks and heart-warming story will make any viewer happy. Like with every other film about the famous bear, the reviews for this movie were excellent.
The Bondsman (Amazon)
If you go into this series only knowing that Kevin Bacon is in it, so you must watch, just give it a tick. This is not a straightforward comedy by any means, and there is a lot of gore, but the episode goes by quickly at around 30 minutes. You might very well begin the series by asking, "What just happened?"
It will all make sense in the end. Think Zombieland if Woody Harrelson's character were also a zombie. Will you laugh a bit? Yep. Will you be amazed at how the characters seem to roll with all the new information they receive? Likely. It is fun, but not for the kids. (And Bacon is, of course, great.)
Pulse (Netflix)
The reviews of Netflix's first English-language medical drama are mixed. The storyline seems interesting enough, though. A trauma center in Miami is having to react to a hurricane hitting the area. Two doctors working in the horrible situation have a past, and one has recently been demoted.
This has been a good year for new medical shows, and Pulse could be the next in line. Netflix has also been successful in creating entertaining shows with actors who might not be well-known. Many times, that allows us to buy into the characters quicker. You will need to watch this series and decide if you like it on your own; the critics will be no help.
Love on the Spectrum Season 3 (Netflix)
On the surface, the series could be viewed by those who haven't seen it as poking fun at those with autism. Far from it. The creators did a fantastic job of laying out the difficulties in dating, regardless of whether a person has autism.
The show is made better because we see real people in real situations that we can all empathize with. You will feel better about life just for watching.
The White Lotus Season 3 finale (Sunday on Max)
You might be three seasons into this show and love it, but you are still attempting to figure out what makes it a must-watch TV show. Many of the characters are intentionally unlikeable, but they are also realistically complex. We all have flaws, and we all have good qualities. Even the worst of the rotating cast of characters is not entirely evil.
The third season began with a shooting (we think) and its aftermath, but we have no idea what happened. One of the best parts of Season 3 is that we have been heading toward the answer, but have no clue what it will be. Mike White continues to do stunning work.
