All fans of medical dramas will want to mark April 3, 2025, on their calendars. That is when Netflix will start to air all 10 episodes of Pulse, its new entry in this, one of the most popular TV genres. The series, prepared by Emmy winner Carlton Cuse and writer Zoe Robyn, is the first English-language medical series exclusive to Netflix and promises to be a great addition to the likes of New Amsterdam and The Resident, among others.
Explaining the premise of the series to Netflix's official Tudum site, writer Robyn notes, “You don’t really want to be in the hospital. But if you were in the hospital — this is the one you would want to be in. You want to be in the care of these people.”
The plot of the series is set at the Maguire Medical Center, located in Miami, where a third-year resident, Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), is suddenly promoted when the center’s chief resident, Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell), with whom Simms has a secret romance, is suspended.
What you need to know about Pulse Season 1 on Netflix
Now, Simms and Phillips have to find a way to work together in new circumstances, control their relationship, and help the patients in the Center.
As a big hurricane approaches Miami, and the Center becomes overflowed with patients and goes into lockdown, it just might turn out that treating patients is easier than controlling interpersonal relationships within the Center.
Robyn explains the key relationship in the series: “We always endeavored to make Danny and Phillips’ relationship a real, authentic look at a workplace romance. We really wanted to play in the gray area of that situation. Pulse shows the edges and pitfalls of their relationship — but also all the joyous moments of working a high-pressure job like this.”
