Basketball season might have just ended with the Knicks' big win, but another season is getting ready to gear up for Isla Gordon. Hot on the heels of Running Point season 2 scoring another slam dunk with fans, Netflix quickly announced the season 3 renewal, ensuring that Mindy Kaling's fan-favorite basketball comedy starring Kate Hudson will be back once again.
But given the busy schedules of both Kaling and Hudson, some fans might have been worried about Running Point season 3 taking longer to return to our screens. After all, Kaling also created and is heavily involved in the writing and production of Hulu's Not Suitable for Work, and Hudson's acting credits have been steadily increasing after her Oscar-nominated work in Song Sung Blue.
Running Point season 3 reportedly begins filming in September 2026
Thankfully, any concerns about a lengthy hiatus aren't in the cards for Running Point fans. In fact, the latest update regarding the new season's filming start date will have you celebrating like Isla and the Los Angeles Waves in the season 2 finale. According to a report from What's on Netflix, Running Point season 3 is currently slated to begin filming sometime in September 2026.

While that seems pretty far away, that's only a couple months removed from this writing in June, and exactly what fans should have been hoping for. As much as we would want filming to begin as soon as possible in order for new episodes to hit our watch lists as soon as possible, the writers need time to craft the hilarious stories and jokes for the cast to bring to life.
A September start date might very well be ASAP in this case, and it's right on target with the production cycle of season 2. Last year, the second season began filming in mid-August and wrapped before the end of the year. That's exactly what we needed: For season 3 to begin filming before 2026 came to and end, which will pave the way for about a year between seasons.
Even though there's no hard dates set in stone for filming right now, Running Point season 3 is on target. Once filming begins and later ends, we'll have a clearer picture on a prediction for the eventual release window. But for now, we can guarantee that the new season will premiere in 2027. If history repeats itself, spring 2027 will be the target window, unless Netflix pushes the series into summer.
Seeing as the third season is in the process of being written, the writers have lots of current basketball material to pull from to inspire Isla's latest setbacks and rivalries. In the season 2 finale, Cam teamed up with Al to revive a dead LA basketball franchise and tapped Jay as its coach. She might have won the championship, but a new war is just beginning.
