There's great news to share for fans of Netflix's hilarious original comedy series Running Point, and it's exactly what fans have been hoping for! The second season of the basketball comedy from Mindy Kaling and starring Kate Hudson premiered in April 2026, and ever since the new season started streaming, fans have been keeping their fingers crossed for season 3.
Well, after the incredible success of the second season, the streaming service officially announced the renewal of Running Point season 3 during its upfronts presentation. When the series returned with viewership that grew week-to-week, we expected the comedy to be a frontrunner for renewal. Thankfully, Netflix didn't keep us waiting on its fate for more than a month.
Running Point season 3 renewed at Netflix
After its first four days of availability, Running Point season 2 attracted 5.3 million views, which translates to 25.2 million hours viewed. In the show's second week, and first full week of availability, the viewership increased to 6.7 million views and 32 million hours viewed. For a Netflix original comedy series, that's quite the success story.

As of May 13, Running Point remains in the daily Top 10 most popular Netflix shows ranking in the United States, currently in the No. 10 position. The series has been able to maintain its dominance and have long-term success as more and more viewers catch up with both the first season and the latest season. Naturally, there's nowhere to go but up in season 3.
Netflix hasn't shared any additional details about Running Point season 3 as of the renewal announcement, though there are certain things we can assume to be true. Since the season season premiered a little over a year after the first season, we should also expect season 3 to follow the same timeframe. More than likely, we should expect a release sometime in mid-2027.
We can also expect the entire main cast — which includes Hudson, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Justin Theroux, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, and Uche Agada — to be back, though there could be some changes. The season 2 finale also teased a potentially larger role for Jay Ellis after his character teamed up with Cam to revive a competing Los Angeles team.
The season 2 finale left the door wide open for Running Point season 3 to pick up in the aftermath of the Gordon family shakeup. After winning the championship, Isla wakes up the next morning to learn that her brother has betrayed her and taken their war to the next level. Not only that, but her ex has joined forces with him in a way she never expected. It's a low blow.
