As quickly as the wait for Ransom Canyon season 2 came to an end, the wait for news on season 3 came even quicker. The highly anticipated follow-up season of Netflix's hit romantic drama series arrived on July 23 and had fans clinging to the edges of their seats as the next chapter of love stories unfolded. Naturally, by the season's end, we're left wanting more.
While the second season didn't end with a number of major cliffhangers like the first season, there are plenty of loose threads left open for Ransom Canyon season 3 to continue telling these stories. Netflix hasn't formally renewed the series for another season, since as of this writing less than a week has past from season 2's release. However, the showrunner dropped an exciting update.
Ransom Canyon season 3 is already in the works
April Blair, the showrunner of the series, shared in a conversation with TV Line that the Ransom Canyon season 3 writer's room has already begun and in the early stages of crafting stories for what's to come. It's common practice for Netflix to commission writer's rooms for the next seasons of its original series before a formal renewal, though this isn't a guaranteed renewal.

The fact that the writers are working on season 3 at the time of season 2's release certainly looks especially good for the show's prospects of getting picked up by Netflix. It also doesn't hurt that Ransom Canyon has remained at the No. 1 position of the daily Top 10 most-watched shows ranking in the United States. Clearly, fans have been ready and waiting to return to this world.
Netflix typically looks at the viewership numbers and completion rate for its original series for the first month or so before announcing a renewal decision, though there have been exceptions where renewals have been announced in a much shorter amount of time. The streamer reveals global streaming ratings on Tuesdays, which will give fans a better idea of Ransom Canyon's status.
A big event and a new character in Ransom Canyon season 3
Along with sharing the thrilling news that Ransom Canyon season 3 scripts are currently in progress, Blair also dropped some rather juicy teases for what fans can expect. Based on where season 2 left off, we're hoping for something big to happen for Staten and Quinn, and Blair seems to hint toward just that without spilling the beans on exactly whether wedding bells will be ringing.
"There's definitely a big event in season 3 that Claire in some form will need to show up for — whether that's in person or over FaceTime with the deputy from Encinitas, we haven't gotten to that episode yet," Blair told TV Line of the possibility of bringing Patricia Clarkson back as Quinn's mom.
Seemingly, if there's a necessity for Claire to appear in season 3, that means there must be a pretty significant development in Quinn's life. If Staten and Quinn were to get married, we would hope Claire would be there in person for that, unless they elope or have a small ceremony and call her mother later. But let's think about it... An engagement is much more FaceTime worthy, right?
Blair also chatted extensively with Decider and shared some thoughts about season 3, including that Quinn continuing to explore the world of music will lead to the introduction of an original character that's a country singer. While integrating actual country stars into future music events in the series, a new character could help further stir the pot and give the show's world more dimension.

Yancy and Ellie's future and Lucas and Kit's blast from the past
Speaking of giving the show's world more dimension, Sidney surely did that in season 2, and as Blair teases, we can expect to see her back in future episodes. Thankfully, she doesn't seem like an imminent threat for Yancy and Ellie. Trust seems to be the issue keeping them separated for now as Yancy fights for his family and explores whether there really is oil on his land.
Yancy will be going down a "rabbit hole" and have a "treasure hunt mentality" in season 3 according to Blair, but we can't imagine that's going to win Ellie back. As for the show's other love triangle, the showrunner confirmed that Kit's not going anywhere in season 3 as he and Lauren explore their relationship and Lucas enters his "Me Era."
However, Lucas and Kit will reunite with someone from their past in season 3, and because Blair compared this reunion to the series bringing in Quinn's mom in season 2 and Staten having a breakthrough with his father, we're inclined to believe we're going to meet either of their parents, possibly their absent father Lucas hoped would return in season 1. Intriguing!
