Can you wait to know?

We've all seen it, and we love it. Ransom Canyon is the hit that Netflix hoped it would be. In the last decade, fans of Westerns (both throwbacks and modern) have gotten to see new breath breathed into the genre. In the 1950s, Westerns were huge. In the last few decades, the genre has been hit and miss.

Maybe any new Western owes some respect to Yellowstone. The Kevin Costner-led drama has led to a resurgence in high-quality series of the genre. That includes spin-offs, such as 1923, which stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Heck, even if you don't traditionally like Westerns, you might love some of the new ones.

The truth is that it is not the setting of the story that matters, but the relationships. There is little emotional difference between a series like Downton Abbey and Yellowstone. Some characters represent good and evil in both series, but if you don't have someone to root for and actors playing their roles well, the drama won't work.

Is a second season of Ransom Canyon on the way?

The same holds for Ransom Canyon, and, fortunately, all the roles are played to perfection. Leads Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly are brilliant, but they are not the only ones. A show of excellence needs depth as far as high-quality character development, and the new Netflix series brings us that.

But will there be a second season of the series? There should be. Netflix was partly waiting to see how viewership would be for Season 1, and that anticipation is now over. Ransom Canyon reached number one on Netflix in the US on its second day of airing. It likely will have legs and continue a top-5 run for quite some time.

According to Deadline, series creator April Blair has said the team involved in the new series is already "in the room" discussing how the second season would flow. That is another promising sign that Netflix will greenlight a few more seasons of Ransom Canyon.

There is also no shortage of source material for the series. The series is based on Jodi Thomas's books, which total eight: Ransom Canyon, Rustler’s Moon, Lone Heart Pass, Sunrise Crossing, Wild Horse Springs, Indigo Lake, Mistletoe Miracles, and Christmas in Winter Valley.

The first season was only based on the first book, so we might end up seeing at least eight seasons of Ransom Canyon. That would be excellent.
