It's the weekend, and you might be looking for something to stream. You are likely looking for something on your favorite streaming service, Netflix. The good news is that there are several new arrivals to see.
The bad news is that while there are many that are high-quality productions, they might not all be fun to view. That does not mean they won't be riveting, but you might want to watch a comedy after them.
All three ideas of what to watch on Netflix came out in the few days before this weekend. This means you can decide for yourself how good they are before the masses tell you otherwise.
What to stream on Netflix this weekend (April 18-20, 2025)
Ransom Canyon
Better than Yellowstone? That's what some people are saying, but the decision is up to you. There are devotees of the Kevin Costner-led series who will argue it is the most incredible show ever made. Maybe some will say the same of the new Netflix series, Ransom Canyon.
One thing is for sure, though. If you love Westerns, it's a great time to be alive. After a dip in new films and series of the genre being created, there have been many made in recent years. Many of them, such as Yellowstone and Ransom Canyon, are pretty good.
iHostage
Based on a real hostage standoff at an Apple store in Amsterdam, the film's creators wasted no time in producing this well-constructed movie, as the hostage situation occurred in 2022. Several people were held against their will, and the events at the end of the movie will stay with you. The question is whether the police should have been liable for anything.
In making the film, the creators spoke with some of the actual hostages to build a believable and true-to-real-events narrative. Ultimately, we get to see what human beings are capable of, and it is not always good.
Oklahoma City Bombing: American Terror
Thirty years ago, the worst bombing brought on by a United States citizen occurred in Oklahoma City. Timothy McVeigh planted a bomb that killed 168 people and leveled the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The loss happened on April 19, and Netflix has made a documentary about the event.
Is it a "fun" watch? Not at all, and it shouldn't be. However, it is well-made, featuring interviews with many of the people involved in the investigation. It is heartbreaking, but exceptionally well done.
