Are you in the market to add a dash of drama and suspense to your summer? Well, Netflix has plenty of fresh options ready to add to your watch list this June with a number of titles already heating up the top 10s and keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.
While you know Bryan Cranston from his days as a middle class father in sitcom Malcolm in the Middle and a teacher-father-drug dealer in Breaking Bad, the Academy Award-nominated actor's Showtime series Your Honor has been one of the most popular shows on Netflix in June (apart from Bridgerton, of course).
Beyond the thrilling legal drama that's seeing a resurgence thanks to Netflix, there are also two new hit movies and two new seasons of a fan-favorite CBS procedural series worth checking out on the streamer this summer. Here are four suspenseful dramas to watch right now!
Your Honor
As mentioned above, Your Honor first premiered as a limited series on Showtime in 2020, but the cable network ultimately ordered a second season, which aired in 2023. The jury's still out on a potential third season, but the series coming to Netflix and finding immediately and sustained success is so telling.
In the series, Cranston plays judge Michael Desiato, who's willing to do whatever it takes to protect his son Adam (Wednesday star Hunter Doohan) when a hit-and-run accident kills another teenager. The situation sprials out of control and ties Michael up with a drug kingpin. The 20-episode series has enough suspense to keep you rapt episode after episode.
Under Paris
What's more summer-friendly than a shark movie? After all, summer is the season for Shark Week, which isn't on Netflix, and also a popular time to watch Jaws, which also isn't on Netflix, but the new French action-horror film Under Paris is. In the film, a shark makes its way into the Seine River in France and threatens Paris with disaster. Since its release on June 5, the movie has been a fixture in the daily top 10 most popular movies ranking on Netflix. Nothing adds excitement to movie night like quite like a shark!
Hit Man
If you weren't already well aware, it's the summer of Glen Powell, which was soft launched this spring with the Netflix release of his blockbuster romantic comedy Anyone But You. That perfectly teed up the release of his dark comedy film Hit Man, a collaboration with Richard Linklater, which in turn tees up his starring role in the upcoming disaster movie sequel Twisters.
In Hit Man, Powell delivers yet another star-making performance as a college professor who works with the police department to pose as as hitman for hire to bring in people who want his services. The suspense comes in when he falls for a woman tasking him with killing her husband. The movies goes in unexpected directrions you never see coming!
NCIS
While suspense might not be the first descriptor you would use to describe the CBS procedural drama series NCIS, the series centers on solving crimes, and what's more suspenseful than that? Even though seasons 1-11 will be leaving Netflix, the streamer will be gaining two new seasons on June 30. NCIS seasons 16 and 17 will be hitting Netflix for the first time, giving fans 44 new episodes to watch on the platform. That leaves seasons 18-21 yet to land on Netflix, but the streamer's keeping us in suspense as to when those will be added. Get it?
