Guy Ritchie wasn't done when he produced the initial installment of The Gentlemen back in 2019. In fact, we believe the acclaimed film director was only just getting started with this franchise, as he is set to release another installment of The Gentlemen on Netflix.

This time, The Gentlemen will be in the form of a Netflix TV series and will feature The White Lotus star Theo James as the main character. James is joined by tons of new faces from the original, leading many to wonder what exactly will stay the same across both the TV show and the film.

More specifically, fans of the original wonder whether they will get to see Matthew McConaughey featured in this series in some fashion.

Will Matthew McConaughey become Michael Pearson once more? Here's what we know!

Matthew McConaughey does not appear in Netflix's The Gentlemen

Having watched the first season, we can confirm that Matthew McConaughey doesn't appear in Netflix's The Gentlemen. At least, not in the first season.

In many ways, the upcoming Netflix original series tells a whole new perspective of Guy Ritchie's masterpiece, meaning it will feature new storylines and, of course, new characters, including Eddie Horniman (played by Theo James).

Here is what you can expect from Netflix's Gentlemen below (via Netflix):

"We meet Eddie Horniman as he inherits his father’s sizable estate… only to discover it’s part of a weed empire. Moreover, a host of unsavory elements of Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it."

And, take a sneak peek at what's in store for the upcoming original series here.

As you can see, Theo James is the star of this title, as his character, Eddie, is the new protagonist of Ritchie's story.

Plus, the Academy Award-winning actor is a busy man! As reported by IMDb, McConaughey is currently set to star in many projects, including The Rivals of Amziah King. Perhaps he just didn't have time to star in the Netflix series.

Even though Matthew McConaughey isn't putting his Michael Pearson hat back on, we still think the 2024 installment is worth the watch!

Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen officially streams on Netflix on Thursday, Mar. 7.
