What to watch on Netflix this weekend (Aug. 30): Breathless, KAOS, and more
By Reed Gaudens
It's finally the last weekend of August, which means we're getting so close to fall. While the weather might not be totally cooperating just yet, Netflix has already announced its fall movie lineup and continued to announce which series will be back for new seasons throughout the rest of the year. But before we can get into all the good new releases to come very soon, we have to see off August.
This weekend brings not only the last day of August but the first day of September, and a new month always means a long list of new movies on Netflix! The streamer dropped two brand-new series that will have everyone talking, the Greek mythology dark comedy KAOS and the Spanish medical drama Breathless. The new anime series Terminator Zero also arrive this week along with Adam Sandler's latest comedy special, titled Adam Sandler: Love You.
Looking for some of the best new releases to check out this weekend on Netflix? Let's get this list started with a unique Netflix original series with a famous leading man!
KAOS brings Greek mythology chaos
Greek gods gone bad! Well, kind of. It's not all debauchery and wild times like in last month's Netflix limited series The Decameron. While there's a bit of an edge to KAOS, the series starring Jeff Goldblum and Janet McTeer tackles Greek mythology with a dark sense of humor and an incisive exploration of power and greed. The series features a breezy eight episodes that are about 45 to 50 minutes each, the perfect weekend binge-watch for a bit of larger than life entertainment that makes you think.
The doctors are in on Breathless
Planning on spending another weekend re-watching Grey's Anatomy or New Amsterdam? You could do that or you could watch Netflix's new Spanish medical drama series Breathless. The series comes from the creators of Elite, so you know there's going to be drama top to bottom in all eight episodes. Oh, and you know there's going to be a bit of steamy romance. The series centers on a hospital and its staff grappling with public health matters when a high-profile patient checks in. Again, a series that brings entertainment and makes you think!
Have a spooky movie night with The Deliverance
It's not quite spooky season yet, but it's never too soon to get into the spirit. After all, you don't have to get ready if you stay ready! This weekend, Netflix debuts its new Lee Daniels-directed supernatural horror thriller The Deliverance. Andra Day, Glenn Close, Anthony B. Jenkins, Caleb McLaughlin, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo'Nique star in the movie about a family encountering demonic behavior in their new home. From the prolific director to all of the talented performers, there's no better pick for movie night this weekend than The Deliverance.
...or one of the many new movies on Sunday, Sept. 1
Obviously, none of the above titles are particularly appropriate for families with young children to watch together, but on Sunday, Sept. 1, Netflix adds over a dozen new movies and there's plenty to choose from. Sonic the Hedgehog, Field of Dreams, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Shark Tale, and Wallace & Gromit are just a few of the new family picks. In addition, check out new additions like 300, Along Came Polly, Expendables 1-3, Jaws, 1-3, Magic Mike, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Who doesn't love a good throwback movie marathon on the weekend?
