Can you believe it's already September? In just a matter of months, 2024 will come to an end, but before we ring in the new year, there are still lots of Netflix shows and movies to watch this fall. Following the Labor Day holiday weekend, Netflix kicks off September and the start of the fall season with some of its best new release series, movies, and live events yet.

While the first day of the month drops an overwhelming handful of throwback movies on Netflix, the first week of September continues with a new season of Call the Midwife, Untold's Hope Solo documentary, another doc looking back at Apollo 13, new drama movie Rebel Ridge, and the latest season of the hit real estate reality series Selling Sunset.

The Perfect Couple premieres Sept. 5

As summer winds down leading up to the first official day of fall in late September, Netflix offers up one last taste of summer with the beach read come to life, The Perfect Couple. Based on the Elin Hilderbrand novel of the same name, the limited series centers on a wealthy family as a wedding celebration at their Nantucket home takes a dramatic turn when someone dies. Suddenly, everyone's a potential suspect in this bubbly whodunit mystery. Nicole Kidman leads an excellent cast in the six-episode series that's so juicy you won't be able to put it down, er, stop watching.

Outlast season 2 premieres Sept. 4

Are you a fan of Survivor and can't wait until the season premieres on CBS later on in September? Well, Netflix has just the show to hold you over. The streamer's survival competition series Outlast returns for a second season on Sept. 4 and will stream in two batches. The first four episodes of season 2 begin streaming on Sept. 4, and the second set of four episodes drops the following week on Sept. 11. Don't miss the new adventures of 16 lone wolves roughing it in the Alaskan wilderness in order to be the last one standing and earn the whopping million-dollar prize.

Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef airs Sept. 2

While you're at home on Labor Day having a barbecue with the family and friends, hot dogs will most likely be on the menu. It's the essential summer cookout cuisine! Well, you can also watch Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi battle it out on Sept. 2 at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET for their long awaited hot dog eating contest. Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef features Rob Riggle and Nikki Garcia as the hosts of the eating contest, which also includes Matt Stonie battling olympians Ryan Lochte, Ryan Murphy, and Max Irving in a chicken wing contest and Leah Shutkever attempting to break a watermelon record. Save some room on your plate for this epic live event!

The Hughleys complete series arrives Sept. 2

If you're not hungry for a hot dog eating contest on Labor Day, maybe you will be in the mood for a delightful throwback to the late '90s. All four seasons of the ABC/UPN family sitcom The Hughleys will begin streaming on Netflix on Sept. 2. Comedian D.L. Hughley stars in the comedy series about a family that movies from the city to the suburbs. The series contains 89 episodes, making for a binge-watch that will have you laughing all week long.
