Today is the day, Netflix Lifers. Sweet Home season 3 is finally available to stream on Netflix, and while we're excited to watch the brand new episodes, we're also saddened that this will be the last time a new season drops. Unfortunately, the popular Korean horror series is ending with its third season, so there won't be a Sweet Home season 4. Although we hate to say it, it's officially time to say goodbye to Hyun-su and the rest of our favorite characters.

When the first season of Sweet Home premiered on Netflix in December 2020, there was no way of anyone knowing that it would be a hit. But it ended up faring really well on the streaming platform, even making history as the first South Korean series to rank on Netflix's Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) list. According to Netflix, the first season was watched by 22 million people in its first four weeks on the platform.

Due to the major success of the first season, Netflix went ahead and renewed the horror series for not one but two seasons in June 2022. However, the streaming giant hadn't revealed at the time that the third season would be the show's last. We didn't find out this information until June 2024, only a month before the third season's release.

Based on the popular Korean webtoon of the same name by Kim Karnby and Hwang Young-chan, Sweet Home season 1 opens with Cha Hyun-su, a troubled 19-year-old boy who, after losing his entire family in a tragic car accident, decides to move into the rundown apartment complex known as Green Home. But soon after his arrival, strange events start to occur. He witnesses humans turning into savage monsters, driven by their deepest desires and fears. Now, in order to survive, he must band together with his fellow apartment residents.

Sweet Home season 2 was released on Netflix in December 2023 and was another entertaining and action-packed season. That's why fans were more than ready to return to the world of Sweet Home for its third installment. But no one was expecting the third season to be the show's last.

On June 11, 2024, Netflix announced the official release date for Sweet Home season 3 as well as revealed that this season would conclude the series. Check out the official announcement via X below.

Why isn't Sweet Home season 4 happening? Well, it appears that the show was planned to have only three seasons. When Netflix announced in a press release that Sweet Home season 3 would be the final season, the streamer made it clear that the third season would bring a "fitting close to the epic series" as well as wrap up each character's story. If there were going to be a fourth season, it wouldn't have made sense for season 3 to wrap up all the characters' stories. Then, there wouldn't be anything left to tell for a fourth season.

So, our belief is that the show's creative team had already mapped out how far they wanted to take the series, and that was up to three seasons only. However, this is just speculation. Neither Netflix nor the show's creative team has explained why they decided to end the series with its third season. If the real reason ever comes out, you'll be the first to know.

Sweet Home season 3 is streaming now only on Netflix.
