Supacell creator Rapman has three-season plan for the new Netflix hit
By Bryce Olin
Supacell is easily one of the best new Netflix shows of the summer. According to a report from Netflix, Supacell, which premiered on Netflix on June 27, is officially the most popular show of July so far! It's still early, but things are looking good for that season 2 renewal.
We already covered how Supacell should return for season 2, but now, Supacell creator Rapman is sharing his plans for the future of the series. Right now, Rapman has a three-season plan for Supacell, according to Radio Times.
Rapman shared his plans for the future of the series in a recent interview.
"I told them that I want three seasons. I suppose we have to see how season 1 performs. But I know I've very much made clear that I want to do three seasons minimum."
That's great news for fans of the series! As mentioned, the ending of the first season sets up season 2, so we can only hope that Rapman gets to see his vision for three seasons come to fruition.
There's still so much story to be told, and we can't wait to see Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Josh Tedeku, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, and Calvin Demba back on screen soon!
Rapman also shares how fans can ensure Supacell season 2 happens
Obviously, to get through three seasons, Supacell needs a season 2 renewal. We all know Netflix has a high bar for second-season renewals, and it only gets harder to score a renewal with each passing season.
As mentioned, Supacell is hitting solid benchmarks for viewership in the first two weeks on Netflix. It needs more viewers, in my opinion, to be considered safe for a season 2 renewal, but it's great to see the series at the top of the daily Netflix Top 10 in many countries.
In an interview with Blex Media, Rapman was asked about when season 2 is happening and when it's coming out.
"As I tell everyone, I have no control over that. I have no control over what Netflix is going to do with the show," Rapman said. "The show is doing really well. We're number one in a bunch of countries, but we're not number one in the US."
Rapman also shared to Blex Media how people can encourage Netflix to renew the show for another season.
"The more people that watch it, the more likely it is that we'll get a season 2," Rapman said. "So, we got to keep rounding up the numbers. Keep on spreading the word. Tell someone who hasn't watched it to watch it. Hopefully, it will be undeniable, and they'll be throwing multiple seasons at us."
That's the recipe for a Netflix renewal; that's for sure. Covering Netflix for so long, I've seen how so many of the decisions come down to viewership. It's not every decision, but that's a huge part of it. Do people want to see more of the show? Do they start the series and then watch it all the way through? Do they do it in a short time frame, rather than spread the episodes out over a few weeks or months? Those are the biggest questions that Netflix is reviewing when considering a renewal.
So far, viewership looks good! Since early May, Supacell had the best week (July 1-7) of a new Netflix show aside from Bridgerton season 3, which is going to be one of the biggest seasons of a Netflix show ever. Fans watched nearly 62 million hours of Supacell during the first week of July, which comes in at 11.8 million views. That's a great sign that Supacell season 2 will happen.
As an American, I feel like I need to apologize to Rapman and the whole Supacell team. I don't know why Americans keep choosing Worst Roommate Ever over Supacell. I've seen both, and it's a shame that Supacell is even mentioned in the same sentence as that show. Supacell is so much better!
I really hope Supacell is renewed for season 2 soon! As Rapman said, the only way fans can make sure that happens is by watching the series and spreading the word about how good this series is.
