Owning Manhattan season 2 is off the market, officially renewed at Netflix
By Reed Gaudens
Netflix has officially closed a deal for Owning Manhattan season 2 after leaving the new hit real estate reality series on the market since its June debut. If the real estate metaphors aren't working for you, here's the good news without any bells and whistles: Owning Manhattan has been renewed for season 2!
The streaming service announced the exciting news with a photo of series star and real estate broker Ryan Serhant on social media. Serhant previously spoke about the possibility of Owning Manhattan returning for a second season back in July and teased the show's potential of franchising in different locales similarly to Selling Sunset.
While Netflix hasn't yet revealed when Owning Manhattan season 2 will premiere (likely sometime in 2025), Serhant has already teased the second season to be even more exciting and thrilling than the first, building on the surprises, drama, and fast-paced energy of the eight-episode freshman run. The mogul offers an advanced recommendation: "I’m giving everyone a heads up to invest in a couch with a seatbelt. Turbulence is coming."
Owning Manhattan season 2 was a no-brainer
As Variety notes, Owning Manhattan became a success for Netflix globally upon its June 29 release. The series racked up over 512 million viewing minutes within its first week of availability, and the real estate reality series earned the bragging rights of spending one week on the streamer's Global Top 10 TV (English) ranking and notching 30 Top 10 entries around the world. Those numbers are about as impressive as the deal's Serhant and his brokers make in the show!
Before season 2 even hits our watch lists, we should take Serhant's advice and prepare for the "all-out real estate warfare" that's in the cards for the new seasons. According to the star, season 2 will dig deeper into the lives of its cast members, including the backstories of Tricia Lee, Jess Markowski, and Nile Lundgren. Serhant says they need "more than eight episodes," but there's no indication that Netflix has increased the order.
Upon the season 2 renewal, Serhant reacted to the news and the show's continued success in an interview with Variety. While Netflix has had a number of successful real estate reality series to its name prior to Owning Manhattan's debut, Serhant's patting himself on the back for helping maintain the genre's success and help innovate it to new territory:
"It’s a lot to take in — it’s a global hit. Owning Manhattan is unlike anything else on TV, we basically invented a new format. I’m ecstatic, but it’s also overwhelming, in a good way. I can’t wait for what’s to come."
- Ryan Serhant
Well, it's not the first real estate reality television series to mix the high stakes of the corporate environment with personal life drama, but it's definitely one of the best of the genre on Netflix right now. Fingers crossed for even more seasons of this seriously binge-able series and possible spinoffs, too. Stay tuned for more news and updates on season 2 from Netflix Life!
