Outer Banks season 4 officially wraps production, according to the cast

Great news incoming from the Outer Banks! According to OBX stars Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant, the cast and crew have officially wrapped production on Outer Banks season 4. Only Rudy Pankow was left out of the action.

The stars of Netflix's best teen series shared pictures and videos in their Instagram stories on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, that referenced and announced the end of filming on season 4.

Stokes captioned the video in his story: "JB out."

We'd been expecting that production on Outer Banks season 4 would be ending soon. Stokes told People in April that production was coming to an end soon. Well, it looks like things officially wrapped up in June.

Madelyn Cline also shared a picture to her story from Outer Banks season 4.

It's been a long process to make it to this point for the cast. Production actually started in June 2023, but they shut down production during the actor's strike of 2023. Outer Banks season 4 was one of the first Netflix shows to resume production following the end of the strike. Cameras started rolling late last year and work on the season continued in Charleston (and other big, secret locations around the world!) throughout most of 2024 so far.

There have been a few hints that they've been winding things down for a while now, in addition to the comments from the cast. Recently, Stokes posted a picture on Instagram that looked like he was doing ADR on the new season. If that's actually what was happening, it looks like we could be even closer to the premiere of Outer Banks season 4 than we thought. It'd sure be awesome if the new season premiered this summer, but that seems unlikely.

Netflix has already confirmed that Outer Banks season 4 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2024. The release date for the new season has not been announced, but we think Ted Sarandos, the CEO of Netflix, might have confirmed Outer Banks season 4 for the fall.

During the Q1 earnings call, Sarandos listed a group of Netflix shows returning with new seasons in 2024. That list included Cobra Kai, Emily in Paris, The Night Agent, Outer Banks, Squid Game, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Of those shows, Cobra Kai and Emily in Paris already have release dates. Cobra Kai season 6 premieres in July, followed by Emily in Paris season 4 in August. The Night Agent season 2 also just wrapped filming around the same time as Outer Banks. We also know that Squid Game season 2 is coming to Netflix in December 2024. So, my theory is that The Night Agent season 2 will arrive in September or October, followed by Outer Banks season 4 around that same time.

Obviously, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with the Outer Banks season 4 release date. It could arrive sooner than the fall, but they need a lot of time, most likely, for post-production and promotion. We'll be sure to let you know more about the new season when we find out!

Of all of the Instagram Stories, there was one that jumped as immediately worrying, and that was Bailey's. In the story, Bailey posted a video with the caption, "Wrap on senior year."

At first I thought, oh, they are doing senior year in season 4. Then, I remembered there's a major time jump at the end of season 3 that takes the timeline, like, 18 months into the future. They should be out of high school in season 4!

Then, I thought, oh, Bailey means "senior year" because this is the end of the fourth season. There are four seasons of Outer Banks. There are four years of high school.

Then, I had this sinking feeling that Bailey was teasing the final season... While I don't think that's true, I'd basically be the Michael Scott "I'm okay. No, I'm not." meme in real life.
