The best new comedy series of 2024 made its premiere on Netflix on Sept. 26, and of course, we're talking about Nobody Wants This. No, that's not hyperbole. Some might not agree that it's not the best new comedy of the year, but it's definitely in the conversation no matter what. And after the hopeful and open-ended season finale, we need a second season as soon as possible.

Erin Foster created the series based on her own personal experience with converting to Judaism and marrying husband Simon Tikhman. Loosely inspired by that journey, Kristen Bell plays rough-around-the-edges podcast host Joanne, who meets Adam Brody's traditional Jewish rabbi Noah. While they pursue their shared sparks, no one around them seems to want them to work.

Through a series of ups and downs, crushes and icks, family feuds and crashed bat mitzvahs, Joanne and Noah's relationship undergoes quite the test in Nobody Wants This season 1 that perfectly sets up a second season. To further shower this series with praise, here's why we need season 2, what Bell and Brody have said, and what could be next according to Foster.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the Nobody Wants This season finale.

Nobody Wants This season 2 needs to happen

By the season finale, Joanne feels prepared to take on the world, temple, the Roklov family, and anything in between to be with Noah and convert to Judaism. But after a conversation with Rebecca, she realizes the weight and pressure of the decision to convert and doubts if she's doing it for the right reasons. That reason being just to be with Noah.

She tries (keyword) to break up with Noah and seemingly do what she believes is the right thing in the moment. She doesn't want to get in the middle of him becoming the head rabbi and messing up his dream. However, Noah races after her and they kiss. He tells her that he can't have both the head rabbi job and a relationship with her, but he doesn't seem too concerned.

But we are! We need to know where they go from here. Does Joanne look more into converting? Will Noah land his dream job as head rabbi? Can they actually have both? These are the question left by Nobody Wants This, and the likelihood of them being answered rests in the hands of viewership. Netflix historically measures the numbers for the first few weeks or so before making a decision.

While chatting with Entertainment Tonight in the lead-up to the show's release, Bell and Brody addressed questions about season 2, including whether their real-life spouses, actors Dax Shepard and Leighton Meester, could potentially make cameos. The stars seemed game to rope in their IRL better halves for a cameo or guest appearance, which makes us want season 2 even more!

Bell seemed optimistic and excited about the prospect of continuing to explore the complexities of Joanne and Noah's relationship following the first season's mini-cliffhanger. Here's what Bell said to Entertainment Tonight about the likelihood of season 2:

"Sure! I mean, look, the complexity of this show is because it's exploring what a real relationship in modern day dating times looks like. There's nothing polished about it. It's getting into the nitty gritty, so as long as humans remain complex and are deciding whether or not to cohabitate with one another, there will always be room for another season."

The pair also told Rolling Stone that they would do Nobody Wants This "till our faces fall off" if Netflix allows them to. Well, to be clear, we don't need or want their faces to fall off, but at the very least, two or three more seasons would be great!

An interview with series creator Erin Foster in Vulture also addressed the possibility of a second season. Foster shared with the outlet that in the event she's granted season 2 and can continue telling this story, that she would like to further delve into the experience of converting. Obviously, that suggests Joanne would be converting in season 2, but only time and an official renewal will tell.

Overall, Nobody Wants This season 2 deserves to happen whether the first season is watch for 1 billion minutes or 100 minutes in its opening week. The world needs levity, and Bell, Brody, and Foster have tapped into something that's really special with genuine laughs. Don't let this one slip through your fingers, Netflix! The streamer needs a new reigning original comedy, and what do you know — here it is.
