Damsel, Beverly Hills Cop 4, and 5 new Netflix movies we're excited to watch in 2024

It's going to be a good year for new Netflix movies! While a lot of studios are pushing new releases to 2024 and beyond following the writers' and actors' strikes, Netflix has a great slate of new movies, featuring new releases starring Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy, and more.

We shared the list of Netflix movies we can't wait to watch in 2024. We'll be updating the list as Netflix adds movies to its release schedule. Fortunately, we know the release information for many of the new movies coming to Netflix in the first half of the year, but we don't know a lot of the release information for the movies coming in the second half of the year.

Let's get the list started with Kevin Hart's Lift, which premieres in January 2024.

Lift

• Release Date: Jan. 12, 2024

• Cast: Kevin Hart, Vincent D'Onofrio, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington

Lift is one of the early favorites to be one of the most popular Netflix movies of 2024. The film premieres the second week of the year, and it's an action movie. We all know how Netflix subscribers love their Netflix movies and shows. If you like heist movies, this is for you! I like heist movies and shows, so it's definitely for me.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, Lift stars Kevin Har and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a former couple who try to steal millions while it's being transported in a passenger airplane. I can't wait to see how it all goes down!

Players

• Release Date: Feb. 14, 2024

• Cast: Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Tom Ellis, Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle, and more

Netflix just confirmed the release date for its biggest romantic comedy of early 2024. Players starring Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., and Tom Ellis premieres on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14), and it looks to be a sure-fire hit for the streamer. Rodriguez, Wayans Jr., and Ellis have all starred in popular shows available to stream on Netflix. Lucifer, which starred Ellis, is probably the biggest of those, and we have a feeling all of those Lucifans will be tuning in for that one.

In Players, Rodriguez stars as Mack, a high-profile sportswriter who has always just been interested in hook-ups. When she falls for a new guy, Nick, played by Ellis, things start to change with Mack, her friends, and her relationships.

As I said, this is going to be a huge hit for Netflix. It's been a minute since we've seen a good Netflix rom-com, and it sure seems like Players has all the makings of a popular movie.

Spaceman

• Release Date: March 1, 2024
• Director: Johan Renck
• Cast: Adam Sandler, Paul Dano, Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini

Spaceman premieres on Netflix on March 1, 2024! It's the one movie on this list that I'm most curious about. There's a lot to love about this story and this cast, but it's all about the execution. I'm very much in on Adam Sandler when he's playing a more serious character than we're used to seeing. Spaceman is going to be another of those movies.

Spaceman is based on the book, Spaceman of Bohemia, by Jaroslav Kalfař. It premieres at the Berlin Film Festival in February before its launch on Netflix, so we'll all know what to expect before the movie hits Netflix. The film tells the story of an astronaut while on a solo mission. As things start to go wrong, the astronaut connects with an ancient being.

I can't explain it, but I think this one is going to be an absolute smash hit. We'll have to wait and see. Watch Spaceman on Netflix on March 1!

Damsel

• Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter, and Shohreh Aghdashloo

Netflix has back-to-back hit movies coming the first week of March! Damsel premieres on March 8, one week after Spaceman. These could be the year's two biggest movies for the streamer released a week apart.

Damsel stars Stranger Things and Enola Holmes star Millie Bobby Brown as Princess Elodie, who is to marry a prince. Unfortunately, it's a betrayal, and she ends up trapped with a giant dragon. Elodie does everything she can to escape.

I love fantasy movies, and based on what we've heard about Damsel so far, this Netflix movie is a must-watch in March 2024. I think a lot of Netflix subscribers will be excited to see Brown in another new role on Netflix after crushing Eleven and Enola Holmes.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver

• Cast: Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and Anthony Hopkins

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver premieres on Netflix on April 19! It's not a long wait for the sequel to Rebel Moon to be released on Netflix. Rebel Moon - Part One: Child of Fire premiered on Netflix on Dec. 21, 2023, and it's been a big hit through the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 so far.

The film series tells the story of a group of rebels going up against the Motherworld, an oppressive empire set on destruction and control.

It's unclear just how big of a hit it will be after the first movie didn't get great reviews from critics and fans, but I'll definitely be tuning in to see how this story ends. It's so weird, but Netflix released the PG-13 version in December. Apparently, there's an R-rated cut out there, and I feel like that will be a much better version of this story. It doesn't quite work without the R-rated scenes, in my opinion.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

• Cast: Eddie Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Kevin Bacon

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth movie of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, premieres on Netflix in the summer of 2024. There's no release date for the film yet, but Netflix confirmed it will be sometime this summer. I'm so excited for this movie. Of all the movies on this list, it should be the funniest on Netflix.

Axel Foley, played by Eddie Murphy, is headed by to Beverly Hills years after leaving the beat to investigate the death of an old friend.

The Old Guard 2

The Old Guard 2 should be released on Netflix in 2024. We're still waiting for the official confirmation, but production ended on the sequel to 2020's The Old Guard in the fall of 2022. So, the movie is likely done. Netflix is just waiting for the perfect time to release the new film. Based on what's coming in early 2024, The Old Guard 2 should be released on Netflix in the second half of 2024.

If you haven't seen The Old Guard, we highly recommend you check it out in early 2024. It sounds like The Old Guard 3 is also in the works, although unofficially.
