Romantic comedies never go out of style, and Netflix has a long list of movies and series in the genre, both new and old. The recently released Mother of the Bride is a fun look at a destination wedding full of surprises and don't miss the latest season of the period romance Bridgerton. If romance isn't your thing, no worries the streamer has a huge list of new titles this month and next.
Mother of the Bride (2024)
The Netflix original movie Mother of the Bride is directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) and starring Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, Sean Teale, Chad Michael Murray, Rachael Harris, and Benjamin Bratt. The story follows Emma (Cosgrove), who, after a year abroad, surprises her mother, Lana (Shields), with the news that she is getting married at a destination ceremony in Phuket, Thailand. Things take a downward spiral when Lana realizes that the father of the groom is none other than Will (Bratt), a man who broke her heart during their college years.
The Choice (2016)
The Choice, based on Nicholas Sparks's 2007 novel of the same name, is a romantic drama that will move you to tears. Starring Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, Maggie Grace, Alexandra Daddario, Tom Welling, and Tom Wilkinson, the film follows Gabby (Palmer) and her neighbor Travis (Walker) in a love story filled with hope and hardship. Don't miss this one, as it is leaving the streamer on May 31.
The Wedding Planner (2001)
You can never go wrong with J.Lo rom-com. The Wedding Planner stars Jennifer Lopez as Mary, a wedding planner who is rescued by the man of her dreams (Matthew McConaughey) only to discover he is the groom of the next wedding she is hired to plan. With a partnership at her job on the line, will Mary keep things professional or try to sabotage the wedding that would secure the future of her career? Also starring Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Justin Chambers, Alex Rocco, Kevin Pollack, Kathy Najimy, and Judy Greer.
Always Be My Maybe (2019)
Starring Ali Wong and Randall Park who co-wrote the film with Michael Golamco that is directed by Nahnatchka Khan, Always Be My Maybe is an incredible story about childhood friends reunited in adulthood. Everyone but them believed they would end up together; now that they are reunited, will things take a romantic turn, or will her success and his fears make things too difficult? The film also stars James Saito, Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, Daniel Dae Kim, and Keanu Reeves.
Plus One (2019)
Plus One is a 2019 film written and directed by Jeff Chan, starring Mya Erskine and Jack Quaid as single friends who team up for the wedding season as each other's plus one. Dreading the upcoming season when all of the friends are getting married, the long-time friends feel they could better handle things as a team after both losing in love. The movie also stars, Beck Bennett, Rosalind Chao, Perrey Reeves, and Ed Begley Jr.
