Madame Web gets Netflix release date (and it's sooner than you might expect)

Dust off your old Madame Web memes from February because you're going to need them in May! The heavily discussed but critically panned Marvel superhero movie will make its high-profile landing on Netflix in the coming month, and it's completely likely that Sydney Sweeney will replace herself in the summit of Netflix's top 10 movies list — or at least snag her second No. 1 of the year.

Sweeney's blockbuster romantic comedy Anyone But You exceeded expectations at the box office in December (likely making Madame Web's returns look especially meager in comparison). With its arrival on Netflix in April 2024, the rom-com also starring Glen Powell debuted in the top spot of the daily film ranking and stayed put for a week and counting (as of this writing on April 30).

Netflix subtly confirmed Madame Web's release date with addition of the movie's landing page on the website, which reveals it will drop on Tuesday, May 14. Make sure to mark your calendars, but if you don't want to forget when the movie releases on Netflix, you can also head to its page at the link above and click the "remind me" button to receive a notification when it drops.

It's no secret that when Madame Web hit theaters on Feb. 14, it wasn't well-received. The reviews didn't hold back, calling the film "hilariously bad" and an "embarrassing mess," all contributing to the movies dismal 12% on Rotten Tomatoes. (For what it's worth, it has a 57% audience score.) But for every hater, there was a fan who genuinely didn't mind the mess and had fun watching the movie. That could be you on Netflix on May 14.

Honestly, it doesn't matter how badly a movie tanks in theaters or how harsh the reviews get. There's always a forgiving viewership ready make the movie hit in a different way. Word of mouth and curiosity will likely allow Madame Web to find success on streaming and you never know... That could turn the movie into a cult classic and fan favorite years down the road. I mean, look at Halle Berry's Catwoman and how she later reclaimed the Razzie winner.

Anyways, that's all just a long-winded way of saying Madame Web is coming to Netflix on May 14 and it's definitely deserving of a second chance, no matter what the critics, fans, or cast has said about it. We all need a little bit of mindless fun every now and again, and if we can't count on Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney to pull that off, then who can we turn to?
