Anyone But You and the best sexy movies on Netflix in April 2024
By Reed Gaudens
Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney are making their way to Netflix in April 2024, but it's not with their divisive superhero flick Madame Web (though it's slated to arrive on the streamer later this year). Instead, the pair of talented actresses star in romantic comedies that make up two of the best sexy movies being released on Netflix in April 2024.
Of course, Sweeney headlined last year's hit rom-com Anyone But You with Glen Powell, while Johnson's underrated 2016 romantic comedy How to Be Single arrives to remind everyone that they missed out the first time around. Beyond those movies from two of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now, the streamer also boasts sexy movies from past and present, including a new Spanish original movie.
Let's get the list started with the hottest romantic comedy of the moment: Anyone But You.
Anyone But You
Romantic comedies? Oh, they are so back! Anyone But You released in theaters back in December 2023 around the holidays and became the surprise rom-com smash at the box office, bringing in over $216 million worldwide against its $25 million budget. Romantic comedies haven't done that in quite a while, but there's something about Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell pretending to be a couple then falling in love that had the world swooning. And it'll do it all over again when the blockbuster makes its Netflix debut toward the end of the month.
- Release Year: 2023
- Directed By: Will Gluck
- Cast: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell, Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Richardson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet, Rachel Griffiths
- Watch on Netflix: April 23
Wild Things
If you were a kid in the late '90s, then you remember wandering the aisles of Blockbuster and seeing Neve Campbell and Denise Richards staring back at you from the VHS cover of Wild Things. While seemingly not as successful as its pop culture presence would lead you to believe, the erotic thriller has definitely become a cult classic. The film tackles heavy subject matter and also delves deep into sexuality. Let's just say it earns its R rating. Wild Things has the potential to become popular again on Netflix right after celebrating its 25th anniversary. Check it out in April!
- Release Year: 1998
- Directed By: John McNaughton
- Cast: Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Theresa Russell, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Robert Wagner, Bill Murray
- Watch on Netflix: April 1
How to Be Single
While Anyone But You brought back the mainstream romantic comedy to the big screen, How to Be Single deserved to be the one to do it back in 2016. Dakota Johnson headlines the sneakily charming tale about dating in your 20s during that weird time when you graduate college, cut your hair, move to New York City, and start a new job. In spite of middling reviews, the movie made over $100 million and should be officially cemented a modern rom-com classic.
- Release Year: 2016
- Directed By: Christian Ditter
- Cast: Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann, Alison Brie, Damon Wayans Jr., Anders Holm, Jake Lacy, Nicholas Braun, Jason Mantzoukas
- Watch on Netflix: April 1
Love, Divided
The Netflix original sexy Spanish romantic comedy film Love, Divided (also known as Pared con pared) stars Spanish singer Aitana in her debut film role. She stars as a pianist and Fernando Guallar plays a game inventor. One plays music, the other prefers quiet, and they are separated by the thin walls of their respective apartments. Even though we know they will find a way to fall in love, it's all about seeing how in romantic comedies. Don't miss this one on Netflix in April!
- Release Year: 2024
- Directed By: Patricia Font
- Cast: Aitana, Fernando Guallar, Natalia Rodríguez, Adam Jezierski, Paco Tous, Miguel Ángel Muñoz, Àlex Maruny
- Watch on Netflix: April 12
Knocked Up
Those of us who saw Knocked Up for the first time in 2007 haven't stopped quoting it since, and it's unlikely to ever stop when the comedy returns to Netflix in April. Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl star as a couple whose one-night-stand turns into a family when an unexpected pregnancy results in a relationship. It's not smooth sailing, which is where the comedy comes in. If you're rewatching for the millionth time, turn it into a game with your friends. Fill bingo cards with your favorite quotes and see who gets "bingo" first!
- Release Year: 2007
- Directed By: Judd Apatow
- Cast: Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Martin Starr
- Watch on Netflix: April 17
