We're nearing closer and closer to the Bridgerton season 3 release date, and everyone's gearing up for the highly anticipated release, including the show's stars. On April 14, Bridgerton star Luke Thompson attended the 2024 Laurence Olivier Awards in London, England, and he had some things to say about his character's journey in the upcoming third season. Find out what he said below!
Thompson plays Benedict Bridgerton in the popular period drama series. Benedict is the second eldest son in the Bridgerton family. Unlike his older brother, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), he's more of a free-spirit. He's more like his younger sister, Eloise (Claudia Jessie), in this regard. He's an artist who doesn’t want to be confined to societal norms and responsibilities. He wants more out of life than just finding a wife and taking care of his family. He wants to pursue art full-time and turn it into a career, something that people in the ton wouldn't understand.
In Bridgerton season 2, things seem to be looking up for him when he gets accepted into an art school in London, but then everything comes crashing down when he realizes that he didn't get in because of his talents but because Anthony paid for him to be there. He makes the hard decision of quitting art school altogether, and at the end of the second season, he's left wondering what's next for him now that his artistic pursuits have come to a halt. Well, we now have an idea of where Benedict's journey could be headed based on a new interview with Luke Thompson.
While on the Olivier Awards Green Carpet, Deadline got the opportunity to speak with Thompson. In the interview, Thompson is asked about what happens with his character in Bridgerton season 3. Obviously, he wasn't able to spill much, but here's what he said. He responds to the interviewer by saying that viewers will see Benedict still trying to "work himself out," but that the struggle in him sort of "comes to a head."
Oh, whatever could he mean? Will Benedict finally decide to focus on fulfilling his duty to find a wife? I mean, with his younger brother, Colin, finding love with Penelope, the pressure to find a wife will likely be at an all-time high for him in Bridgerton season 3.
It's still unknown which Bridgerton sibling the upcoming fourth season will center around, but many fans are hoping Benedict steps into the spotlight. If Bridgerton season 4 does end up being about his love story, we'll likely see him entertain the idea of marriage in the third season. By doing this, it sets up his story to be told in the fourth season. Once Netflix and/or the show's creative team announce which Bridgerton family member the fourth season will focus on, we'll be sure to let you know right away.
What do you think will happen with Benedict in Bridgerton season 3?
