Don't you just love a good crime show? They're easy to get sucked into once you start, and you'll want to see how everything plays out in the end. Luckily, Netflix has tons of crime shows on its platform to pick from, but that doesn't mean they're all worth the watch.
That's why you have us to guide you. We've looked over the list of new releases coming in January 2024, and there are several crime shows on the list that we believe should be added to your watchlist. In fact, some have even come out already.
So, don't waste your time browsing through Netflix's endless library of crime shows and instead check out our recommendations below!
Griselda
The crime series that everyone should be watching in January, and I mean everyone, is Griselda. It is set to be released on Netflix on Jan. 25, 2024, so make sure to save the date.
It's a limited series, meaning the complete story should be told in the first season. This also means that it won't be coming back with an additional installment in the future.
Created by Doug Miro, Eric Newman, Carlo Bernard, and Ingrid Escajeda, Griselda is a fictionalized dramatization based on the life of real-life Colombian drug lord, Griselda Blanco. In six 50-minute long episodes, viewers watch as the determined Colombian businesswoman rises to the top and builds one of the most profitable cartels in history.
Emmy-nominated actress Sofía Vergara takes on the leading role of Griselda Blanco in the crime series. Joining her in the cast are the talented actors Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Christian Tappan, Martin Rodriguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez, Alberto Ammann, and others.
The Brothers Sun
Have you checked the top 10 TV show list on Netflix recently? The Brothers Sun made the list, and it doesn't look like it'll be leaving it anytime soon. This isn't surprising because the show is full of action-packed scenes as well as a sprinkle of everything else like comedy, romance, and crime.
Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu created the series, which was a part of Falchuk's massive overall deal with Netflix. The show begins with the head of a Taiwanese triad being assassinated by a mysterious enemy. This causes his eldest son, a ruthless killer named Charles Sun, to head to Los Angeles to protect his mother and his oblivious younger brother from any other enemies that come their way.
Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh plays the role of Eileen "Mama" Sun, the strong-willed mother of Charles and Bruce, while Justin Chien plays Charles, the Taipei gangster. In addition, Sam Song Li portrays the role of Bruce, Charles's younger brother.
Fool Me Once
Do you know what goes perfectly with crime? Mystery and that's what Fool Me Once is full of. This makes sense since it's a show based on bestselling author Harlan Coben's mystery novel of the same name.
In this gripping crime mystery, we follow an ex-soldier named Maya, who after seeing her dead husband on a hidden nanny cam, goes searching for answers only to "uncover a deadly conspiracy that stretches deep into the past." Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan plays the role of Maya. Adeel Akhtar, Richard Armitage, Joanna Lumley, Emmett J. Scanlan, and many others also appear in the series.
Like Griselda, Fool Me Once is a limited series so don't expect it to return with a second season in the future. The complete story is told in the first season.
You can stream Fool Me Once right now on Netflix.
Boy Swallows Universe
Get ready because Boy Swallows Universe is set to land on Netflix on Jan. 11, 2024! It's an Australian Netflix original series based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Trent Dalton. It tells a coming-of-age story of a young boy growing up in the suburbs of '80s Brisbane who finds himself facing the harsh realities of life after his family is torn apart by a legendary drug dealer.
I'm sure you'll recognize some of the actors in the cast such as Phoebe Tonkin, Travis Fimmel, Simon Baker, and Sophie Wilde. Felix Cameron, Zac Burgess, Lee Tiger Halley, Bryan Brown, Anthony LaPaglia, and many others are also in the cast.
