Everything we know so far about Berlin season 2

Netflix renewed Berlin for season 2 in February 2024, two months after the Money Heist spinoff premiered

As a huge Money Heist fan (and just heist TV shows and movies in general), I was especially excited when news of Berlin, the Money Heist prequel following Pedro Alonso's character, Berlin, was in the works. After watching the first season on Netflix in December 2023, I couldn't be more happy with Netflix's decision to continue the stories of this great character.

I loved the first season of Berlin. Although critics and viewers didn't necessarily agree, I enjoyed the tone change from the much more serious Money Heist to the funny, whimsical, and exciting Berlin. And, we have some good news to share with those who, like me, enjoyed the first season!

Berlin season 2 is officially happening at Netflix. After the first season's premiere on Dec. 29, 2023, there were questions about whether the Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) spinoff would be back for season 2. Thankfully, viewers tuned in for the first season. Netflix didn't wait long to renew the series for a sophomore season.

On Feb. 19, 2024, Netflix announced the renewal. Now, fans of Berlin and Money Heist have a lot of questions about the new season, and so do we! But first, let's focus on what we know about season 2, starting with the cast, which has been confirmed.

Season 2 cast

According to a report from Variety, Pedro Alonso will return for Berlin season 2, along with Tristán Ulloa, Michelle Jenner, Julio Peña Fernández, Begoña Vargas, and Joel Sánchez. That's the group that makes up Berlin's ragtag team who pull off the heist in the first season.

  • Pedro Alonso as Berlin (also known as Andrés de Fonollosa)
  • Tristán Ulloa as Damian
  • Michelle Jenner as Keila
  • Julio Peña Fernández as Roi
  • Begoña Vargas as Cameron
  • Joel Sánchez as Bruce

That's who has been confirmed for season 2. Although there were a few close calls, all six of the main characters survived the heist and the fallout. If we're guessing, there are a few characters who I think will be in season 2 who were present in season 1.

  • Itziar Ituño as Raquel Murillo
  • Najwa Nimri as Alicia Sierra Montes

For those who have seen Money Heist, their appearances were not surprising, but Itziar Ituño and Najwa Nimri, who star in Money Heist, do appear in the final episodes of Berlin. I have a feeling we'll see these characters return in the second season of Berlin. We could also see a few of the other Money Heist characters appear in season 2. This world is very interconnected, and so far, Berlin has not met the Professor, played by Alvaro Morte, yet.

There are a few characters who could return for season 2, but they're quite unlikely. Those include:

  • Samantha Siqueiros as Camille
  • Masi Rodríguez as Susi

I'd love to see Siqueiros return as Camille in season 2, but it seems the story is moving in a new direction.

Berlin season 2 isn't coming to Netflix for a long time

Now that we know the season is happening, fans are obviously curious to find out what we know about the Berlin season 2 release date. Unfortunately, there's going to be a big gap between the first and second seasons of the series.

We were hoping that production on season 2 would be starting sometime in 2024. That would have set the series up for a late 2024 or early 2025 release date on Netflix. We know now, thanks to Netflix, that will not be happening.

It's been reported that Berlin season 2 starts filming sometime in 2025. Womp, womp womp...

Best case scenario, Berlin season 2 starts filming in early 2025. Then, we'll see the season on Netflix in the fall or winter of 2025. That's as soon as we'll see the series.

Unfortunately, there's a real possibility that we'll be waiting until 2026 to see Berlin season 2 on Netflix. We've seen a lot of Netflix shows with about two years (or more) between each season. It looks like Berlin season 2 is going to be one of those shows.

Estimated Release Date: Late 2025

Stay tuned for more news about the Berlin season 2 release on Netflix!

Season 1 ending, explained, and what's next in season 2

There's still a lot we don't know about the story we'll see told in season 2. Looking at season 2, there are probably a few clues that show where the season could go.

At the end of season 1, the heist is successful. We know that part of the plan was basically foolproof. While things almost went wrong for Berlin and the gang in the vault, they do pull it off. Berlin frames François Polignac, played by Julian Paschal, the husband of his lover, Camille. The bandits escape with all the expensive jewelry.

Had they been careful from this point onward, things would have been fine! Instead, all those things that were building throughout the season finally reached their breaking point. The crew leaves Paris in waves to split up the jewelry and not make a scene. Everyone leaves the city except Berlin.

Before they leave, Roi and Cameron leave one of the necklaces in a stolen car they lost in a street race, which was quite dumb. It gives authorities a description of the pair, which leads to their near arrest at a campsite after leaving Paris with Damian. Luckily, they planned for something like this!

Meanwhile, Bruce and Keila escape into the woods, posing as hikers, but Keila gets bit by a snake and nearly dies. They, then, have to hold up some cops, steal a cop car, and then steal a boat to evade authorities.

Berlin's affair with Camille finally has consequences. Following the group's exit, Camille finds out that Berlin was actually responsible for the heist. Luckily, she doesn't turn Berlin in. Instead, she finds out that her husband also was living a double life.

Finally, Damian, after accepting his wife's decision to split up, returns for Berlin. They escape the city and they all reunite with the rest of the gang in Spain.

We do see Camille return and confront Berlin much later, who pays her off for her silence and heartbreak. That should be the end of her story with this group.

As for season 2, we know it has to revolve around another heist. Berlin will definitely be back, and seeing as this is the prequel for Money Heist, it's already laying the groundwork for that story. We see detectives Murillo and Sierra assist in the investigation. There's a moment where Sierra says that the criminals will pull off another heist, and they'll be ready. Is that about Money Heist at the Royal Mint of Spain? Is that about another heist? We'll have to wait and see.

Personally, I think it's going to be another heist. Álex Pina, the creator of both shows, should find a way to bring in some of the other Money Heist characters. Could they cross paths with Berlin in some way? Could the Professor be included? I think it has to happen! Netflix would love it.

So, that's what we know about Berlin season 2 so far! We'll share more updates about the new season as we find out!
