It’s official... Emily in Paris season 4 has a release date! We finally have some big news about when the new season premieres to share with fans of the Netflix original series, and it’s two for the price of one. That's right, Emily in Paris season 4 will be released on Aug. 15 AND Sept. 12. It's a two-part drop!

Emily in Paris season 3 premiered back in December 2022, and although season 4 was delayed due to the strikes, we’re now lucky enough to have season 4 on the way sooner than we expected. The series earned a two-season renewal for seasons 3 and 4 in January 2022, not long after season 2’s premiere on Netflix in December 2021. Even though the series hasn’t been well-loved by critics, the fan-favorite (Emmy-nominated!) romantic comedy has been a big hit.

As fans anticipate what happens next after that jaw-dropping season 3 finale, we’re learning more about Emily in Paris season 4. From production updates to new characters, we're sharing everything fans need to know about the new episodes before they begin streaming!

Two-part release date in summer 2024

As mentioned above, Emily in Paris season 4 premieres in two parts this summer. Part 1 consists of five episodes and drops on Thursday, Aug. 15, and part 2 consists of the remaining five episodes and drops on Thursday, Sept. 12. A lot of fans aren't into the two-part drops Netflix has been leaning into lately, but no show does a cliffhanger to keep you hooked like this one!

In the wake of the writers' strike, the fourth season was reportedly eyeing an early fall 2023 start date, according to Variety, but that start date fell into jeopardy because of the WGA strike continuing throughout the summer and the SAG strike starting in July. Production was originally supposed to begin in the summer of 2023, but it was pushed back to October. Neither filming dates were met.

Complicating things further, the studio whereEmily in Paris films, Cité du Cinema, is booked for the Olympics starting in December 2023 and ending in October 2024. However,Variety reported that, with the writers’ strike being resolved in September 2023 and the actors’ strike being resolved on Nov. 8, season 4 would begin filming on Jan. 15, 2024 before the Olympics and last for five months. There was also a shoot planned in Italy, which happened in April 2024.

Trailer and synopsis

In the fourth season, change is in the air for more people than just Emily. Yes, she and Alfie broke up and she's dealing with the aftershocks of Gabriel and Camille's ill-fated wedding and baby reveal. While she faces the facts that she still has feelings for Gabriel and Alfie, Sylvie's in for a blast from the past as Mindy's band preps for one of their biggest stages yet. But that's nothing compared to the tease that two secrets are coming rock Emily and Gabriel's world. What could it be now?!

Here's the official season 4 synopsis via Netflix:

"After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shakeups. Mindy and the band prepare for Eurovision, but when funds run dry, they’re forced to get thrifty. Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of."

On top of the juicy synopsis for season 4, Netflix dropped the trailer for season 4 part 1 on July 22. The full clip previews all the drama soon to come in the highly anticipated season's first half, including single Emily pining over the two handsome men in her life. She seems as though she's inching toward making a decision, but will she choose between Gabriel and Alfie once and for all? Check out the build up to the Aug. 15 release in the video below!

Season 4 wrapped filming in May 2024

Collins and the cast members wrapped filming on season 4 in Paris in late April 2024 and celebrated with a wrap party in Paris, which Collins and Ashley Park shared photos and videos from and gave us FOMO. The cast then headed right on over to Rome, Italy to film the season's scenes set in Rome. Netflix had previously announced that season 4 would contain a Roman holiday for Emily. Again, Collins documented her arrival and initial sightseeing adventures in Rome with lots of photos. Production wrapped in full on May 16, which Collins commemorated with a fun post.

Previous season 4 production updates

On Jan. 19, 2024, Netflix shared the très exciting news that Emily in Paris season 4 had kicked off production. The streamer shared a selfie of Lily Collins holding up the script for the first episode of season 4, which was written by Grant Sloss and directed by Andy Fleming. The title of the episode isn't written on the script's front page, though eagle-eyed fans will catch that the table read for the first episode occurred on Jan. 17.

Collins herself also shared the exciting news with fans, saying it "feels so good" to be reunited with the cast and crew in Paris. She even posted a behind the scenes video of the creation of the season 4 production announcement selfie. She might think she's out of practice with Emily's selfie skills, but she did amazing! Check out the selfie in the photo below!

On Sept. 29,Variety reported that with the summer Olympic Games having booked so much of the city’s time and space already for 2024, production on season 4 was eyeing a tentative January 2024 start date, which ultimately came to fruition since SAG-AFTRA was able to receive a fair deal with the AMPTP by the end of 2023. On Nov. 16, Variety reported that filming finally kicked off on Jan. 15, 2024 in Paris and would last for five months.

Because the Cité du Cinema studios where the series previously filmed its first three seasons has been booked by the olympics from November 2023 onward, Emily in Paris filmed season 4 in Studios Monjoie, with exterior scenes still filmed on location around the city. The season had to wrap by June 2024, since guidelines restrict filming in certain parts of the city from July to September 2024.

Previously, we believed production on Emily in Paris season 4 could have kicked off in summer 2023, as hinted at by this tweet from writer Joshua Levy. The writer shared a note from the Netflix team about beginning work on the season 4 writers room. That means, the writers had been hard at work plotting the scripts at the time well before the strikes took effect.

Cast

In the third season, Lucien Laviscount was promoted to a series regular, and the rest of the main cast from the first and second seasons returned. Assuming the cast will remain the same after the third season, here’s the current main cast of Emily in Paris:

  • Ashley Park as Mindy Chen
  • Lucas Bravo as Gabriel
  • Samuel Arnold as Julien
  • Bruno Gouery as Luc

Also, season 3 introduced new recurring and supporting characters that will stick around in season 4. Paul Forman plays Mindy’s new love interest Nicolas de Léon and Melia Kreiling plays Camille’s love interest Sofia. Kevin Dias returns as Benoît, and Kate Walsh reprises her role as Emily’s American boss Madeline Wheeler. Walsh’s storyline was wrapped up in season 3, though she could always make a return to stir up some drama. We’ll be sure to share casting announcements for season 4 as they arrive!

The following new characters will be seen in season 4:

  • Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello
  • Rupert Everett as Giorgio Barbieri
  • Thalia Besson as Genevieve
  • Anna Galiena as Antonia Muratori
  • Raoul Bova as Giancarlo

Ashley Park shares septic shock recovery

Almost a month after Park initially revealed her health battle, she gave an update to Emily in Paris fans that she had stepped back into Mindy's sparkly outfits.

On Jan. 19, Mindy actress Ashley Park penned a personal post on Instagram sharing the health battle she had been facing since the start of the new year. Park wrote in the caption, "While on holiday in December into New Years, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs. I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told."

She included a series of photos from the hospital and expressed her gratitude for her doctors, ICU nurses, "personal team of heroes," and Paul Forman. Park wrote that she loves Forman "more than [she] can say." (Emily fans will remember Paul Forman played her character's season 3 love interest Nicolas de Léon.) She also stated that she's still in the "throes of recovery," but assured that she's healing and that she's going to be okay.

The talented actress and singer received well wishes in the comments from Lily Collins, Mean Girls and Girls5eva co-star Busy Philipps, Mindy Kaling, Lucien Laviscount, Glen Powell, and others among thousands of fans. We wish Park nothing but the best, and we're so thankful she had recovered. Send Park some love! We all can't wait to see her back in action doing what she does best.

Warning: Spoilers from Emily in Paris season 3 ahead!

What could happen in season 4?

In the final moments of season 3, Camille leaves Gabriel at the altar and exposes the pact she and Emily made. Suddenly, Emily and Gabriel’s feelings for each other, which they keep avoiding, are out in the open. Alfie also walks out on Emily, not wanting to be her second choice.

When Emily and Gabriel have an honest talk about their feelings for each other after the wedding, Gabriel hits Emily with the bombshell that Camille is pregnant.
