WARNING: Major spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4 part 2.

Emily in Paris giveth and Emily in Paris taketh away when it comes to romance, but in season 4 part 1, the Netflix original romantic comedy series finally gave us what we (well, some of us) have been waiting for. After three seasons of push and pull, Emily and Gabriel finally got together as an official couple. Heavy emphasis on both "finally" and "official."

Of course, getting together during this particular moment in their lives wasn't without its challenges, making their relationship seem all the more like a fantasy. Even though Camille was pregnant with Gabriel's baby, he and Emily made it work. Well, Emily pushed forward and made a decent amount of sacrifices with her time and space.

However, that bombshell reveal at the end of Emily in Paris season 4 part 1, that Camille isn't actually pregnant, looms large over part 2. The impending explosion of that information combined with the fact that Emily will be living it up in Rome with a handsome Italian businessman left Emily and Gabriel fans worried going into these new episodes. And well...

Here's your final spoiler warning before we dive in!

Emily and Gabriel break up in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2

After becoming an official item in part 1, Emily and Gabriel quickly call it quits in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2. Their relationship goes south when Emily and Gabriel are set to spend Christmas separately, with Emily heading home to Chicago and Gabriel spending the holiday with Camille's family in Megève. But when Emily's flight gets canceled, she joins the big, happy family in the mountains.

Things escalate from there as Emily, Gabriel, and Camille go skiing together and Gabriel races after Camille down the mountain, concerned for her safety since he still thinks she's pregnant. Emily struggles to ski on her own and takes a hard fall. She's saved by Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), the absolute Italian dreamboat (who's later called the "Italian Stallion" by Mindy).

Before skiing, Emily had a conversation with Camille's brother Timothée, which puts some doubts in her head about the complicated situation she's in between Gabriel, Camille, and the baby. After the incident on the mountain, she breaks and shares how she feels with Gabriel, and that includes feeling like a mistress. She then leaves Megève and returns to Paris.

Emily and Gabriel still have to work together on a project, but when Emily learns the truth about the false pregnancy from Camille, she attempts to talk with Gabriel, but... that doesn't go over so well. When Emily suggest that Gabriel doesn't communicate with her, he claps back that they only communicate in her language (English) and never his (French).

It's kind of a low blow on Gabriel's part because this language disconnect has always been present between them. On the other hand, he does have a point about the fact that the language situation can cause strife between them, though the way he blew up on Emily and blamed her about it kind of wasn't fair. If there's one thing Emily does consistently, it's try. All she does is try, try, try.

By the end of the season, Emily's pursuing a relationship with Marcello while Gabriel has a one-sided situation with Genevieve. But after getting his star and learning Emily will be moving to Rome to run the new Agence Grateau office, Gabriel receives a congratulatory voicemail from Emily (in French!) and advice from Alfie of all people to get her back. Sounds like he'll be headed to Rome!

Emily and Gabriel were so close to having it all in season 4, and while some might be a bit exhausted of their constant back and forth, the series has done an excellent job making the conflicts feel natural. It's still possible for them to end up together by the end of the series, but for now, Emily's new relationship with Marcello is exciting and Gabriel having to fight for her for once is necessary.

Watching Emily in Paris only on Netflix.
