Warning: MAJOR spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4 part 1. Proceed with caution if you haven't watch all five episodes. You've been warned!
Emily in Paris officially kicked off the highly anticipated season 4 with the release of part 1 on Thursday, Aug. 15. The unfortunately delayed fourth season touched down on Netflix and the rom-com series' legion of fans were prepared to have lots of questions answered. I mean, how could we not have dozens of questions after that shocking season 3 finale almost two years ago?!
In the final moments of season 3, after Gabriel and Camille's wedding went kaput, Gabriel reveals to Emily that Camille's pregnant with his child. To translate: Even though they are both finally single at the same time, there's a massive caveat in between them. We know the feelings are there between them, but will that be enough to weather all the drama in season 4?
As teased by the season 4 part 1 trailer, Emily continued to waffle on her feelings for Alfie and Gabriel, which was somewhat unexpected given the state of things by the end of season 3. But what does that mean for Emily's love life in season 4? If you're wondering if the show's main ship set sail at long last, we're getting into the question everyone wants answered.
Here's your last warning before we get into all the spoilery goods!
Do Emily and Gabriel end up together in season 4 part 1?
YES! Emily and Gabriel finally get together and end up together in Emily in Paris season 4 part 1. You don't know how long I have been waiting to write those words, but I can estimate it's been about as long as the show has been on the air, so nearly four years. I also imagine many fans share in my excitement about Emily and Gabriel finally becoming an official couple and saying "I love you."
The connection and feelings and potential romantic relationship between Emily and Gabriel has been teased since the very first episode of Emily in Paris. Twists of fate and other circumstances have kept them apart each season, sometimes it was even their choice to remain friends, but season 4 made good on a promise we had been waiting to be fulfilled since season 1.
Sorry to those who were holding out hope that Emily and Alfie would be reconciling and getting back together in season 4 part 1, but it just didn't happen. It was touch-and-go for a minute there when Alfie realized he wanted Emily back and confessed his feelings during the masquerade ball. Unfortunately for Alfie, Emily made a decision and that decision was a relationship with Gabriel.
Initially, they had fantasized that they were Anna and David, two completely different people free of all the complications that surround their actual selves. When they dance at the masquerade party, they imagine it's only them in the room. Their eyes never leave each other's. It's the magical moment that they — and us fans who have been dreaming of this — deserve to revel in.
In the carriage ride home from the party, Emily worries that this fantasy will be too good to be true. A Cinderella moment. When the clock strikes midnight, they'll turn back into pumpkins. (That's not the right reference, but you get it.) Gabriel rebuffs her concern and the couple has their very own Polin carriage scene, though a PG-13 version. No, they're not turning back into pumpkins.
Where do Emily and Gabriel go from here?
Obviously, for Emily and Gabriel, it's a bit more complex than just deciding, "Okay, we're a couple now!" There are lots of interpersonal logistical issues to sort through, namely Camille's pregnancy. However, considering she's playing house with Sofia and happily in that nesting bliss (at first), there's no jealousy to be found from Gabriel's ex-fiancée. It's an early sign of support they need.
Well... Emily puts in work to be a supportive girlfriend when Camille and Sofia move in to the apartment right next door to Gabriel's. Admittedly, it's better than them living with Gabriel and having zero privacy, but it's still a little too close for comfort. Even a building down the block might have been pushing it, but next door? Sofia tires of it and leaves Camille high and dry.
By the end of part 1, Camille learns that she isn't pregnant and, in fact, she was never pregnant. As her doctor tells her, she likely received a false positive home pregnancy test. She hadn't visited a doctor to confirm the pregnancy until the end of part 1. She's primed to drop the news on Gabriel, but he's so excited to be with Emily and be free of the Michelin star pressure that she keeps up the guise.
How long will Camille lie to Gabriel, and could this impact his relationship with Emily? We already know that Emily will take a Roman holiday in part 2, and she wasn't spotted with Gabriel or Alfie. There could even be a new love interest coming up, too. Are Emily and Gabriel really too good to be true right now? Personally, I hope not. We've been on this rollercoaster long enough. Let them be in love!
