5 best new Netflix shows to catch up on this Memorial Day weekend

Netflix released an impressive number of new shows in 2024. Take a look at these new shows you won't want to miss.

Each month Netflix releases many new movies and shows and it is impossible to view them all. This weekend, many people get an extra day off for Memorial Day, which makes it a perfect time to binge those amazing shows you've missed so far in 2024.

Bodkin

The seven-part series Bodkin, created by Jez Scharf, is a dark comedy thriller that follows a group of podcasters who travel to the idyllic coastal Irish town of Bodkin to investigate the disappearance of three residents. As their investigation progresses, they begin to uncover something much larger and more strange than they could have imagined. They try to uncover what is true and not regarding the cast, their colleagues, and themselves. The series stars Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, Robyn Cara, David Wilmot, and Chris Walley.

The Gentlemen

Emmy-nominated Theo James stars in The Gentlemen, an eight-episode series created for Netflix by Guy Ritchie, a spinoff of his same-titled movie. James portrays Edward Horniman, a man who unexpectedly inherits 15,000 acres and the Duke of Halstead title after the death of his father. Soon after, he discovers that his father's estate is part of a large cannabis empire, which is greatly desired by members of Britain's criminal underworld. Edward decides to take on the gangsters to protect what is rightfully his. The series also stars Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, and Ray Winstone.

3 Body Problem

The thrilling sci-fi series 3 Body Problem is based on the Hugo Award-winning Chinese novel The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. Created by David Benioff, D. B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, it is the second adaptation of the book; the first was a Chinese series from 2023. One woman's decision in 1960s China crosses space and time to modern-day scientists. The series is layered with mystery and genre-bending high stakes. Five former colleagues come together to confront humanity's greatest threat as the laws of nature unravel before them. The series stars Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Benedict Wong, and Jonathan Pryce. Season 1 consists of eight episodes, and the series was renewed for a second season.

Dead Boy Detectives

The Dead Boy Detectives is an agency consisting of best friends Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), “the brains” and “the brawn," who are ghosts. The duo decides against the afterlife and instead remain on Earth to solve supernatural crimes. The series, created by Steve Yockey, is based on DC Comic characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner and is set in the same continuity as Gaiman's The Sandman. The Dead Boy Detectives are assisted by a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) to solve perplexing crimes of the mortal realm.

A Man in Full

A Man in Full stars Jeff Daniels as Charlie Croker, an Atlanta-based real estate mogul who suddenly faces bankruptcy. Based on the late Tom Wolfe's New York Times best-selling novel, the limited dramatic series showcases Croker's fight to defend the empire he created from people who are looking to benefit from his fall from grace. The series from showrunner/writer/executive producer David E. Kelley also stars Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, Aml Ameen, William Jackson Harper, Sarah Jones, Chanté Adams, and Jon Michael Hill.
